The best news, though, is that for all its departures from "conventional" racing titles, Baja gives you just as many customization and tweaking options as those games do.
  2. Although Baja: Edge of Control is a pretty standard off road racer, it takes enough risks in its gameplay to a make it a very solid title.
  3. Overall, BAJA: Edge of Control is an awesome blend of simulation racing with a bit of arcade. I personally love this title.

    As a debut title, it's a straight-forward affair. [Dec 2008, p.112]
  5. BAJA is a real wolf in sheep’s clothing – a robust, addictive and unique racer that handles better than DiRT and sounds better than Forza disguised as unassuming release schedule filler. It even supports up to four-player split-screen, which is great considering split-screen of any type is a real rarity these days. It’ll probably vanish without a trace, but right now we’re turning off the driving aids and screaming off into the sunset.
  6. What’s most impressive is the game’s physics engine.
  7. This ambitious racing game delivers a rewarding off-road experience provided you make it past the initially steep learning curve.
  8. The refined physics mesh with the superbly slick controls to create and authentically challenging racing experience, chock full of wicked-fast wheeling. [Nov 2008, p.61]
  9. It’s a punishing game but rewarding in equal measures, and will draw you in like no other racing game quite has managed so far this generation - bring on BAJA 2: World Tour.
  10. This game really could have been a must have with some more attention to the AI and some polished graphics to appeal to the general mass of gamers that feel graphics are more important than gameplay.

I find myself beating the campaign just to unlock more stuff to go into freeride. The very long races are very cool and unique, and had the game been centered around these, it could have been an 8 or a 9. Otherwise you end up with a game that's very fun to kill an hour in driving all over the countryside, but is very unsatisfying when you spend the time to beat it. Full Review »

This is the best off-road racing game I have ever played. The racing genre is my favourite, so I've played a lot of racing games. TheThis is the best off-road racing game I have ever played. The racing genre is my favourite, so I've played a lot of racing games. The learning curve is definitely big on this game, as it even took me a short while to get used to it, but I'm glad I took the time because I have been having so much fun since. The physics engine is superb and just everything about this game is amazing. I highly recommend all racing fans pick this game up as its a must-have. Full Review »

Dealing with the crazy terrain is what's challenging and interesting about the game. I would most compare gameplay to Smuggler's Run, but racing instead of smuggling. The environments are massive, varied, and just plain fun for offroading. Young kids could have a blast with it because they can freeride wherever they want, for as long as they want. With that said, the single player racing mode is tough. But I really appreciate how they don't use elasticband ai to fake close racing like most games (Need For Speed I'm looking at you). Although Baja is yet another racer on the 360, I think it's one of the best, and most unique on the system. Full Review »
