It may not pack the same shock and awe as its next-gen cousin (the visual concessions made during multiplayer and occasional bug smack of an engine cracking under pressure), but the top-drawer gameplay makes Battlefield 4 a deeply enjoyable title regardless of platform. As one of the best multiplayer games available on 360 and PS3, DICE’s shooter offers a delightfully destructive send-off to the current-generation.

Most of you have already decided whether you’re playing Battlefield 4 or not. And for those who are riddled with doubt we have the following announcement: buying Battlefield 4 will get you a multiplayer game that’ll suck hours upon hours out of your life in the coming year.

Anyone hoping that Battlefield would finally get a respectable single-player campaign will be sorely disappointed, but if you’re looking for a worthy evolution of the franchise’s sweeping multiplayer battles, you’ve come to the right place.

The current-gen version of Battlefield 4 isn't the ideal way to play, but it isn't damaged or deficient despite its limitations. It accomplishes less than you'll see on other platforms, but it's still a great multiplayer shooter that makes the most of its ambitions.

Unlike 2011’s installment, though, multiplayer excellence can't completely compensate for a misguided and rote single-player campaign, which makes BF4 an unsatisfying choice for those looking for the total package.

Battlefield 4, with its huge maps and high attention to detail is just screaming next generation. Playing on maps built for 64 players with a mere 24 seems like not only a disservice but lacking in punch too.

It may be disappointing to some that Battlefield 4’s single player doesn’t live up to a hill of beans, but what they did accomplish with the impressive multiplayer mode is something special that cannot be duplicated even by Activision’s mighty series.

Does include a tacked-on Campaign, but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Kept me entertained far more than it's main competitor's, Call of Duty Ghosts. Also a bit longer.

Now, the multi-player has always been the meat and potatoes of this series. And it doesn't fail to deliver. Finally they are adding back more destruction. The weapons feel great, good recoil and fairly balanced. Graphics are nothing special (on Xbox 360, on my PC looks much better). Animations are about the same. Controls are responsive and have few flaws. Map design is varied and interesting, at times stellar.

Overall, this is a great game that I will gladly play for years to come.

Playing single player on Battlefield is what you would expect. It's short and sweet. The campaign takes less than 10 hours to complete if you know what your doing. The story is much like a Hollywood action movie rather than a military simulation. That isn't a bad thing specially with today's youth who want instant gratification (Although I would prefer more realism). There are big explosions, plot twists, and many moments that leave you saying 'wow, I can't believe that just happened.' There are a few flaws with single player. More than a few times I found myself being pinned down by gunfire only to have enemies spawn right beside me out of thin air and kill me. This happened way more than it should. Also on several occasions the mission progress seemed to get stuck and I could not go any further unless I restarted from a check point. I managed to make it through the campaign without these flaws detracting from my overall experience and knowing Dice/EA they should have this patched in no time.

    Multiplayer;

Now this is the meat and potatoes of a Battlefield game. The sounds of the game are amazing specially on a nice pair of headphones. The gameplay remains similar to BF3 while also feeling more fluid and natural. The maps are a bit on the smaller side like BF3 but feel much larger and detailed a definite step up from last iteration. The unlocks and leveling move at a nice pace without being too easy and vehicles are just as fun as you might think they would be. The only flaws I found so far with MP is sometimes the textures won't load on my gun right away making it impossible to look down the sights and sometimes the bipod on some guns wont deploy instantly, also a problem in BF3.

I think a few patches will do this game good but as it stands it is an easy 4/5 for any Battlefield fan or a shooter fan in general. If the games looks and plays this good on current gen I CAN'T WAIT to see it live on next gen.

In the battle between the BF franchise and the CoD franchise, it's always been neck and neck. But with the latest installments, a winner has been crowned in my opinion. While BF4 may not be the best in the series, with it's own fair share of glitches (campaign saving glitch), the maps are still well designed and the weapons are well balanced." With a community that focusses more on teamwork instead of who can get that 25 killstreak first. I can say that I did have more fun in BF3, but if you have to chose between CoD Ghosts and BF4, you better be wise and get BF4. Expand

Single and multi-player. Can't play the single player because the save files bug out and the can't play the multi-player because it freezes every 3 or so maps. Honestly don't know how you even release a game this broken. Was it because COD Ghosts was coming out? Anyway on release this game scores low. After a few months of patching it might be up to par. That makes me sad. Expand

I've always been a fan of the Battlefield franchise, I've played every game since 1942.

Battlefield 4 on the other hand, is simply a showcase of what a developer can do wrong. Yes, everybody has already explained how awfully glitchy it is, and how matchmaking is complete **** I however was more perturbed about the release day DLC, and the shameless Micro Transactions, which are frequently advertised in menus in the game.

You can however with one low payment of 50 freaking bucks, get all of the DLC for free, giving you access to a large part of the game you have already payed hard earned cash for. All of the new game-types that I've seen require DLC, and on top of that, many vehicles are badly under-powered until you level them up, which on things like helicopters, is very difficult. The only work around for this is to either, murder your stats by rushing the Heli and attempting to get a kill with the chain-gun, or you can buy the Vehicle pack and unlock everything.

I understand that the Jets and Helicopters, were quite OP in BF3, but in this game they feel like they were just thrown in there because it's Battlefield. I have about 70 hours recorded online in this game, and I have never once been killed by a Jet. Even when I'm in a Jet myself! On the Bomber Jets, switching to your secondary weapon, which is your primary source of damage, puts you into this unhinged under the plane view, that completely fu*** up your perspective, and makes it near impossible to do anything. I understand that they did this to provide a sense of realism, but it feels incredibly broken.

The helicopters are quite a bit more difficult to fly as well. It's nearly impossible to level your reticle on something and shoot it, as you are always trying to overcompensate your direction. So you just end up doing fly-by carpet bombings, and hoping to kill something. I was quite good with the Helis in BF3, and have a pretty good kill count with them. In this game, while they control very similarly, they are constantly in a state of horizontal movement.

Something else that was a pain, but somewhat forgivable, was the explosion hitboxes. While Grenades, and their launchers are in good working order. Any sort of rocket propelled, or shelled rounds, are almost guaranteed to require a second hit on enemy players. I have been hit nearly directly with 120mm tank rounds and survived, countless times. The same applies to rocket launchers, and Heli rockets. It might seem like a bit of a nitpick, but it would really lend to the games immersion, if a gigantic explosion actually killed you.
