  • Summary: Combining naval strategy simulation with first-person shooter gameplay, players fend off the enemy beachside while ordering attacks against their marine counterparts. Seamlessly switching between battlefield and overview "Battle Command" map, the Hasbro game is brought to life as carriers, frigates, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and the legendary USS Missouri Battleship pummel the enemy in a race to strategic points that turn the tide of battle. The Battleship videogame is a next-gen marvel perfectly suited to turn nostalgic game junkies into battle-hardened admirals. Expand

I was nonetheless impressed by the interdependence of the sea and ground battles, and it's the kind of gameplay mechanic of which I want to see more in future games. Battleship is worth a rental for sure.

3.5 hours of FPS/ Strategy hybrid gameplay that is truly awful. Keep away.

Battleship the Video Game is just as forgettable as the movie. It's lacking any sort of replay value, outside of hunting down little Battleship pegs or playing through on a harder difficulty – but why punish yourself? The graphics fail to deliver, as does the audio and the set-up.

Stagnant and lacking in substance, Battleship is a bit of a floater. [June 2012, p.105]

  1. This is a game just expecting to get some wool over some parents and grandparents eyes to buy the game because it seems "to be like the board game; and it's off of a movie!" This game is lazy and is below generic. It's too easy and it's lackluster in every way. It's to short for it's Retail price.
My answer: Avoid like the Plague.

  2. Well I already tested this "game" - and already warning, the film has the same team that made the Hasbro "movies" of the Transformers, so expect something slot and ridicule in the movie (great effects, lousy story):

The history too bad... basically you are a U.S. Marine training in an archipelago disarming some ancient WWII bombs, when suddenly appear the aliens and their ships, which were hidden under the sea for centuries... the game has some videos and pictures of the U.S. Navy (nothing against it, but was unnecessary - looks like a promo content in the Live Marketplace).

Simple as that, bad as that.

The graphics are very bad, like out of a game in 2006-2007, with simple textures and often without convincing detail, especially the enemies and allies, which are all equal (the soldiers all wear a Halo-like mask). The sounds and music are regular, nothing that stands out, but even this things are simple.

The gameplay is focused on two things: the FPS is a mediocre-regular one, with a aim so bad that you can not even do a headshot properly, and has some basic weapons that you can use, of course as well as grenades, and have indicators of the objectives in the stage, like "go to the designated point to do something".

The stages have limits (often invisible ones), but they are coarse, and even his jumping action is not of much use. The covers and objects are an endless repetition in the gameplay, with a bad enemy AI.

The other side of the gameplay is activated with the LB: as you're on an island, you can see the ships of the fleet at sea - you access this panel and use an electronic kit to control the ships, on a grided map. We have some points in it, if you position the ship in them, you receive a choice of auxiliary fire support (such as battery guns, or decoy, for example) that you can regulate the distance, and aim it - it's like a special power.

In this map arise enemy ships and you must coordinate the attack while fighting on land, while battling in a semi-RTS in the LB panel, with informations of what is going on showing in the upper right corner of the screen. Also in the FPS stages, after defeating some enemies you receive some special cards, that gives to one of your ships special power to use in the RTS portion of the game.

And so on... this shooter is a grade B- to C game of Activision, which should not have left the project stage, and is about the same "quality" of the film. Bad graphics, bad gameplay, bad history with a partially interesting gameplay style. Stay away from it.

  3. I gived '1' cuz i hate 0, if you can play in game it deserves for one point. But seriously 60$ for this **** - How many grandparents lose all respect in eyes of grandchildrens when bought them this game. Expand
  4. All Critics who saw this as an "Average" game have lost all legitimacy. Do not waste your money on this game or the movie this game is based upon for that matter. The movie flopped and this game should flop to teach the gaming industry that games like this suck and will not sell. Worst game of the year? [2012] Expand
