In short, MW3 is a solid game, but not as good as Black Ops. The campaign isn't memorable and multiplayer has it's ups and downs. The survival mode, however, is a lot of fun.

And DICE goes on about the limitations of consoles, yet Naughty Dog proves them wrong by outshining them on PS3 graphically with Uncharted 3, even impressing some PC gamers - I'm sure. I was bored quite abruptly with Battlefield 3, the Single Player campaign was dull and the story was too similar to Black Ops' - the only thing I found any enjoyment in was playing Co-Op with a friend. On MW3 I was actually more impressed with the Presentation than I was expecting, especially considering that everything was running at 60 FPS around the even most intense moments. The rating here is unfair, it's become a trend to hate on something that's popular, and I can't say I'm surprised. There is so much content in this game, and so many hours of enjoyment. In regards to Single Player it ties up the story of the Modern Warfare trilogy, otherwise it's more of the same with lots of improvement, which is not a bad thing really. EA has treated their customers poorly by limiting their game to certain stores, and has said that they are going to ruin the Call Of Duty franchise once and for all like they did with Guitar Hero. So I'm not sure the haters of CoD know who they are following here, because this kind of attitude is damaging to the industry as whole. Expand

I bought MW3 and a damn xbox just to play with friends. I played Black Ops on PS3 and I was really into it but I can't tell if xbox graphics are just bad or if MW3 looks bad. Overall I am having fun playing multiplayer and Special Op scenarios with friends, but graphics and progression since previous games are blah.

Kill confrimed is a pretty cool game mode I must admit but it can be annoying as **** sometimes too. Then there's survival mode which actually suprised me and is probably the best part of the game. I'm just hoping that the MW series is finished and cod can release a new game that is unlike any of their past 5. Expand

I am neither a CoD or BF fanboy - I happen to enjoy shooters of all stripes and have since the age of Wolf 3D. That said, it honestly baffles me how the CoD franchise can copy and paste every iteration and keep getting 9's. Any other franchise that would DARE copy and paste would be panned for being unoriginal, for copying past elements, and for generally not innovating between titles. Any other franchise that would DARE copy and paste would be panned for being unoriginal, for copying past elements, and for generally not innovating between titles. And people wonder why "professional" reviewers are distrusted? |||| The sad reality of MW3 is that it looks and plays just like MW2 and Black Ops. There's little to no graphical difference between them, there's really no gameplay changes between them other than the renaming of some of the kill/death streaks. The AI is bad, the voice overs are bad, the maps are small and campy, et cetera. It's basically a carbon copy of MW2 and Black Ops. |||| Now I'm sure people will say "the game was perfect and sold millions so they don't need to change anything". To say the game was perfect is hubris of the highest order though no one can dispute that it sold millions. However, consider, in the same time frame, that Epic Games continually tweaked UE3 for the Gears franchise, making each one richer than the previous, DICE brought out a new engine this generation for BFBC2 and BF3, and Bungie modified the Halo 2 engine for H3 and ODST while making an entirely new engine for Halo: Reach. But Call of Duty? To quote one of its own callsigns: S.S.D.D. I don't think it's too unreasonable to ask for at least a new engine and some better graphics after all these years, even if they leave the core gameplay the same. |||| The game is enjoyable but it's AVERAGE. The engine and the gameplay style show their ages. I honestly would be hard pressed to recommend MW3 to someone who is still having fun with MW2 or Black Ops because they'd just be spending money to get the same experience they already have. |||| (PS. Metacritic, when can we get carriage returns for our reviews so they're not big walls of text?) Expand

I love the series. This is a decent game. But developers should not expect high scores if they don't push the boundaries, especially when the series has made tens of millions in profit. Nothing new here.

The gameplay is of course, the same and offer no new gameplay mechanics but why fix what's not broken and the graphical style has age quite well since MW2. Single player: I thought the single player was much better than Battlefield 3 because I was already emotionally invested on the main characters from COD4 and the set pieces and overall pacing was just better (though the "shock moment" was completely unnecessary and out of context). Multi-player: Same old yet still intense and fun to play and I do like the dog tag collecting after you kill someone, which actually ruins a camper's day and makes the matches more fair. To be honest, it's still the same as the other COD games but it's kind of pointless to bash it for its lack of originality because its not the only game franchise that has used their formula over and over again . MW3 is fun to play overall. The single player is fun but it does not have a good replay value like COD4 had and the multi-player is still as intense and mindlessly fun since the previous games. MWF3 has a great cinematic story which is gripping, but the multi-player is a nest of adolescent children, racist immature thugs, and campers galore. But the gameplay is the real issue as it just isn't balanced, it's like Unreal Tournament but with different weapons. Everything is far too quick, yet lacks the polish and precision of games like GOW and BF. Spec ops is interesting for a while, but again gets boring quickly. Overall I think COD should stop the yearly releases to improve and redesign the formula, however they simply games for profit not entertainment. Or should I say, they entertain the simple to make money. Either way, stick with Black Ops! Expand

In my opinion the maps are getting a bit repetitive. It feels like they're taking bits and pieces from older maps and combining them. It's fun, but it's not as innovative as the previous chapters.

    1) Claustraphobia/Poor Maps - the maps are all claustrophobic, have few if any interesting cover/sniper points, rarely anything you can climb on etc. It's as if they were designed in 15 minutes with no regard for anything. To make matters worse, spray cannon weapons can be accurate with the new anti-kick weapon specialization, almost eliminating the use of precision high damage weapons like sniper rifles. Anything resembling a snipers nest is easily accessible from 3 different directions guaranteeing you will get snuck up on and killed after 1 or 2 kills. 2) Widespread hacking - not IW's fault but a lot of people are using wall hacks that tell where enemies are behind walls. These are not blatant hacks, but ones that make people look like they are playing legitimately until you watch their kill cam and see them tracking people perfectly through walls. 3) Poor netcode - perhaps not as bad or Black ops (or about as bad) this game uses the noob friendly netcode where you will often find yourself getting killed AFTER you run behind cover, or killed BEFORE the person who is shooting you even comes around the corner on your screen. Generally speaking, just a noobified version of call of duty.

Spec-Ops mode is fun for what it is, but other than that I cant in good conscience inflate my score any higher than a yellow mark. So sorry to Glen Schofield, I hear your appeal on twitter and I think it sucks that BF fans are being a-holes with the scores because I think that game suffers from the same lack of innovation and quality in the single player department too... But as far as this MW3 is concerned, imo its a mediocre game simply due to the fact I am so jaded on this franchise now. It just doesn't interest me any more... Doesn't mean any dev who worked on this title shouldn't be proud of their work, as usual their is a good level of polish, but even the most addictive innovative game can get boring after a while, especially if its milked so heavily. The tipping point was at MW2 I think, so we've already started on the gradual decline in gamer support for this IP. If you need a new call of duty game to play with you friends, then Modern warfare is the game for you, but if you game for any other reason, then avoid this at all costs. Campaign is short, but well paced, reasonably fun, but not especially compelling or thought provoking, the issue being that the majority of the campaigns most impressive moments are essentially first person cut-scenes. The combat is solid, but has lost its edge, where call of duty was the example of flawless first person shooter mechanics, it now feels clunky and awkward, while 60 frames per second keeps everything on screen smooth, your movement as a player is not. Crouching, running and vaulting over obstacles feels clunky and slow, and weapons have an unnatural accuracy and lack of recoil that just doesn't feel right. Graphically the game also falls short, while the various studios that produce the game clearly put a lot of detail into many of the levels and character models, the games low muddy looking textures aren't worthy of the these efforts. Lighting also fails to impress, being almost entirely baked into the textures, with little to no dynamic lighting, with the only change in light being the shadows on your weapon. Weapons also look peculiar, a step back from previous titles, the guns are all held at strange angles, and are oddly proportioned. Survival mode is worth you time, but if you have ever played a call of duty game before, then multiplayer is useless. Only buy this game if you have to. Expand

The final game to what turned out to be an over-the-top storyline trilogy was over before it even began. It didn't even take me four hours. I still run around like a chicken with my head cut off getting barked at for going the wrong way, or taking my time taking out a tank, or whatever,...and its still a fun first person shooter. Lots of increadible destruction graphics, struggling to get out of debris or from falling from dizzying heights. I feel like this is an alternate reality in which Black Ops didn't exist, instead of building off the improvements that game made they used MW2 as a base and built off of that. That's all fine and well, but the problem is that Black Ops DID exist and already made improvements to some of the systems MW2 and 3 use. So while MW3 isn't a bad game by any means, it isn't particularly innovative or exciting either. Expand

I purchased 3 of the elite versions because 2 of my sons and I used to like playing multiplayer with each other. It's good for running and gunning but that gets boring on these maps. I also think that Activision's money grab is going to force future releases to require external activation like the elite to bypass XBOX Live. That was a complete disaster and ruined my experience. It was a real hardship to register and I couldn't for a month. What did Activision do? Give an extra 30 days, no consideration for the grief of their customers. They should have given 90 days or an equivalent compensation. This forces me to give them a goose egg. I still feel bitter about it. Expand

MW3 is the more balanced game, and may be the most balanced COD title to date. The game has a bit more detail as far as graphics go. Less explosive damage is a welcome addition to MW3, as well as no commando. Nice weapon balance (apart from the Type 95, and the Striker). On a negative note, the maps are crap. They're the campiest maps ive ever played, and they are flat out boring aside from hardhat, village & dome. Lack of innovation, & poor map design drops my rating for this game to a 7. This franchise will slowly start to fade away if they stick with the trend of staying with the exact same formula. Expand

Anyone who is a fan of the franchise will be getting exactly what they expect for their money. The campaign is as action packed as ever but even at just four hours long it became a bit of a chore to play through as it offers little that hasn’t already been seen in previous entries in the series. Other criticisms that could be levelled at any Call of Duty game, such as an over reliance on scripted events and sections with infinitely respawning enemies, also still apply here. On occasions it is easy to get wrapped up in everything that is going on but for me these instances were the exception rather than the rule.

Online multiplayer has also changed very little aside from a few new perks. The maps themselves are however rather disappointing this time around, none of them are downright poor but none could really be considered a true classic in the same way as Crash or Overgrown from previous games. In fact there is a distinct lack of variety in the maps with none really offering the opportunity for sniping or long range combat (although some may see this as a good thing I suppose). The Special Ops missions from Modern Warfare 2 also return and provide a good selection of challenging co-op game. In the end, despite the fact that the formula is now starting to wear a little thin, it seems as though the majority of people aren’t disappointed with Modern Warfare 3 as sales yet again reached record numbers.

CAMPAIGN: Compared to the mess of a campaign that MW2 was, his campaign is great! Lot's of intense action scenes that will stay in your mind long after playing. In terms of the story it's decent, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer presented the story in a less than desired way but they still make it worth your time to play. ONLINE: Probably don't need to say tom much here, If you love Call of Duty. You will love multi-player. If you hate Call of Duty, not so much. This is practically the same online experience you have enjoyed all these years, but improved upon. New weapons, strike packages, pointstreaks, new game modes (like Kill Confirmed) and more make this the best online Call of Duty yet. However in terms of customization, it is much less custimmizable than last years Black Ops, you can no longer create your very own custom Emblem and place it on your gun, there is less camo choices and the cool 3-D class creation screen is gone. There is also no "Dive" move in multi-player. CO-OP: MW3 brings back the beloved Spec-Ops mode where you and 1 other player can play through pre-made missions, trying to earn the best time on each. They also brought in a new mode called Survival, this is kind of like Modern Warfare's version of Nazi Zombies, you and another player can try to survive wave after wave of different types of personnel and attack helicopters, oh....and Juggernauts! Good, but we've seen it before. One of the complaints I've always had with the series is that the scenery rarely wows me. I guess it's partly because reality is boring (compared to stuff like halo reach, which makes amazing setpieces). Everything just seems to blend into one big "blah". It picks up exactly where MW2 left off with Russia attacking the United States and Captain Price and Captain Mactavish escaping Afghanistan after "murdering" General Shepherd. The story take you on a roller coaster ride around the world including places such as New York, Siberia and Somalia. You play as multiple characters that are a part of the infamous 'Task Force 141', a US Army Delta Force operative, A member of the Special Air Service (SAS), and as a presidential bodyguard. The single player is heavily scripted, but it is extremely entertaining throughout. One moment in particular puts you in an AC-130 gunship as one moment, and then fly's you down to the ground to play in your traditional FPS perspective. If you're not really interested in the single play campaign, MW3 and a huge multiplayer and cooperative suite bursting at the seams with content. You and a friend can team up and the the traditional 'Specs Ops' missions that were featured in Modern Warfare 2, or you can play the new 'Specs Ops Survival' mode. Survival mode puts you a multiplayer map of your choosing against wave after waved of heavily armed combatants. You can weapons to use (which you can also upgrade), close air support (airstrikes, A.I controlled Delta Force Squad), and explosives (C4 packs, claymores).

But what you're probably here for is the multiplayer.

The multiplayer features your traditional 'Call of Duty' staples including create a class, kill streak rewards and perks. Create and class allows you to customize your own load out to take into battle. You can choose what weapons to take in to battle, and also allows you to choose perks, which are special abilities that you can unlock and use on your multiplayer character. The kill streak rewards are now known as 'Strike Packages'. There are three types of 'Strike Package', assault, support, and specialist. The assault package includes the traditional kill streak rewards such as predator missile and AC-130 gunships, and they reset upon your death. The support package includes defensive rewards such as UAV's and recon drones. The most interest 'Strike Package' is the specialist package. The specialist package allows you to trade in your traditional rewards in for perks. A decent player can earn every perk in the game, and dominate with them.

Now for the final part of my review, the balancing. Modern Warfare 3 was promised to be the most balanced 'Call of Duty' game to date, and I have to disagree. Weapons do way to much damage and the map still cater too much to camping. The maps have bad flow which causes things to not go as you would want them to go. People can still spawn right behind you and stick a knife in your back, not something you want to happen in a multiplayer game.

Well, thats not going to happen, I cant believe the utter mess they made of this game. It plays alright, some of the new stuff is ok such as the support kill streaks, I even like some of the changes they made here and there.

However, they need to seriously find some new programmers to make maps as they are HORRENDOUS, and for all the good points the game has, they are rendered quite irrelevant when the maps you play the game on are the worst I have seen. Small, cluttered, they are just a cluster f*** of garbage. All that happens now is your playing Quake with machine guns. I have tried and tried to get into this, but I just cant get past how bad the maps are. Now im considering trading this in Friday for Skyrim, and I will go back to BF3 for my multiplayer fix. On the good side, it did remind me of how much fun the playstyle of CoD games is, and im quite tempted to go back to Black Ops (which I played alot of till about last March). But this game, nope, sorry Activision you messed it up.

I do enjoy the CoD playstyle, remembering how fun it is getting killstreaks, little perks. But I couldnt recommend this game to anyone. IF you love these military type of multiplayer games, try Battlefield 3. Or if you prefer the Call of Duty type of game play pick up Black Ops for probably half the price of this, as its much more enjoyable.

Though there is some kind of conspiracy to give this game as low as score as possible, its not a 3.0 game (as of posting this), but its also not a 90 score game either. I'll give it a 5 as its a good game in a bad enviroment (the maps let it down so much). One last thing to mention, if you enjoy only the single player of these games it ight be worth a look and I'd give that a 6 or 7 out of 10. Where as BF3's is rubbish. But dont expect to get your £40/$60 worth from this if your only interested in buying it for the single player, its short and doesnt do anything new.

Throw in the occasional glitch and the game offers up some truly frustrating sequences. Not to mention that the campaign still doesn't crack the 8 hour mark, even on hardened, and Activision proves once again they are full of garbage when they say they focus on both campaign and multiplayer. On a side note, when confronted with rumors about pulling on people from other Activision development teams outside of Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward to finish the game on time and continue their "once a year" release schedule, they denied it all the way through and then in the credits, you see thanks to people from Neversoft, Raven, and Treyarch. I don't take points off for lying to our faces, but it is nice to see what Activision truly thinks of the gaming community. All in all, an above average experience, but nothing special at all as the series has become more and more formulaic with each subsequent release. Expand

On November 8th 2011 a game released and it changed the world. The game I'm talking aboutt is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The series is known primarily for its competitive multiplayer and its lackluster single-player. Many of us are hoping for a change in the formula but lets see if we got one.

I will start first with the single player. This campaign is similar in its approach as mw2, lots of crazy action moments and shallow characters. The campaign is short and takes about 4-5 hours to beat and subpar story and character development. The campain has you taking over many different characters from different military organizations and you are battling in many different fields of war such as NYC and France. The story takes place directly after the events of mw2 so it is reccomended to play mw2 first if possible. I dont want to go too much into detail with the single-player as I dont want to reveal too much. So basically if you buy this game it will do you no harm to go through the single-player just exspect to see lots of explotions and action scenes with a forgetfull COD story.

The newest addition to the COD series is a new spec-ops survival mode which has you taking on infinate waves of increasingly difficult enemies. The mode allows you to purchase weapons with custom attachments, equipment such as c4 and frags, and also riot shield teams and perks all bought with in-game currency you earn for getting kills and completing wave challenges. What is good about spec ops is there is now online matchmaking so you will always have someone to play with. There is also a new spec-ops rank completly seperate from your competitive rank that allows you to have the oppertunity to buy better gear in-game. The mission mode has returned in mw3 letting you and one friend take on a number of different missions where you also gain xp for you spec-ops rank. Together both the mission and survival spec-op modes add days of exciting content to a game that already has alot of content.

Now to disscuss the thing that many of you will be spending days, maybe weeks playing, the competitive mulitplayer. There are 80 levels per prestige level and there are 10 presitge levels giving us tons of hours of replay value. There are alot of new additions to the competitive and they all make the core experience of online vary depending on how you like to play. Instead of just selecting killstreaks like in mw2, in mw3 you have to choose your strike package whice lets includes assault which is for gamers who like offensive killstreaks. There is the support package that is for the gamers who want to support their team with UAV's and other items. One thing that makes the support package different is the kills you get stay even if you die making it ideal for inexperienced players. Completing an objective also adds to your killstreak. The final strike package is the specialist package ideal lone wolves and kills are rewarded with additional perks. You may choose a seperate strike package per custom class. When you presitge you gain a prestige token which you can use to purchase additional custom classes, or unlock gear straight from the start. This makes each time you prestige more unique. There is also alot more gear you can take with you instead of flashbangs, now you can take trophy systems and other gear. A new major addition is weapon levels which is how you unlock new attachments for you guns. It is a seperate level for each gun that levels up by getting kills with it, and at each new level you unlock attachments, camo, or weapon proficiency like less recoil or faster melee. Please note that this is a COD game and in most occasions suffers from extreme balancing issues and a very large hit box. The shooting mechanics are good and the graphics are on the lower end of the spectrum compared to its major competetors. The game also feels too noob friendly and extremly easy to excell in. The game is also filled with many people who like to camp and cheat. There is also an attachment for the m14 assault rifle that is semi attomatic but makes it have less recoil when using a rapid-fire mod. The game is fun online and it had alot of value but if you were expecting a change in the formula, its not here. The game is unblanced in its core and the series needs an overhaul. Activision needs to change the series because it is killing itself. It may be good enough for the casuals but the hardcore are losing interest. You need to change the series like you did with COD4 or else it will be too late. The world is waiting for change, please Activision, dont make us wait any longer. With Black Ops 2 blow us away because this game just didnt.

Singleplayer was mediocre, I really grew to hate the constant enemy spawning and there weren't any memorable characters like Ghost or Gaz from the previous Modern Warfare games. The story wasn't emotional like Call of Duty 4 nor full of 'oh my God' moments like in Modern Warfare 2 (aside from the massive building getting blown up here and there) and I just didn't care in the end. Environments were bland and monotonous, but as said before, I can't deny that it was fun.
After Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer was where the Call of Duty series was at. Following past Call of Duty titles, Modern Warfare 3 seems to try to push everything from the singleplayer campaign to the multiplayer in the form of killstreaks, which are as crazy as ever. The multiplayer mode was addictive and I found myself enjoying new modes like Kill Confirmed, but being a PC Battlefield player I found the fact that you don't know where the enemy is half the time and the constant sprinting annoying (I've never not known where the enemy is or needed to sprint for really long distances that much in Battlefield 3 on the PC). However, the multiplayer was a step up from Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, though it failed to improve on Call of Duty 4 chiefly because of all the gimmicks that as well as being useless were sometimes discouraging. Whenever I got a deathstreak I always thought 'I must be going badly', and I started dying even more.
So to sum it all up, Modern Warfare 3 is worth a bit of your time, but if you have a decent PC then I'd go with Battlefield 3.

    Campaign:

The campaign is fantastic. It meets all expectations of the game, and more. The story is very refreshed and is NOT a 'rehash' of other games in the series. 10/10.

    Multiplayer:

I do not feel I can review the Multiplayer as of yet as I have not played it enough. Expect a further review of the multiplayer on a later date.

Engine/Graphics: Although the engine and graphics of this game do not meet those of a certain competitor in the FPS genre, they are still much better than some on the market, and again, are no where near as bad as have been suggested. Although it is disappointing that the graphics could not be improved, the engine is still better (in my eyes) than the same certain competitor. This is because of the very nice, crisp sound that is a huge improvement over both IW 4.0 and Black Ops' varient 3.0. 8/10

    Gameplay:

Now this is where I believe the game REALLY stands out. The gameplay of Call of Duty, especially this installment (which has gone back to the trademark gameplay of COD4) is usually fantastic. The AI is well polished and MUCH better than a certain competitor on the market and you actually become attached to the characters that you play as. 10/10

Overall, I give the game 9.5/10, which I will round to 10/10 in order to combat the obviously fanboy-esque reviews of the game.

If you want to verify that I am not a 'fanboy' myself, please see my other reviews of both Call of Duty and Battlefield installments. This game DOES NOT deserve 2.8 (at this time of writing), and you if you've played it you know that.

These reviews focus on the new (and pathetic) "kill confirmed" mode as if it's redefined world history. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is the best game I've ever played. The graphics are more realistic than real life, and I feel like I'm really shooting terrorists in the face with every press of R1. The sound literally made my ears orgasm, which I didn't even know was possible. A quick check of Wikipedia reveals that it shouldn't be possible, but for the purpose of the review I will assume that Sledgehammer Games has hired a few wizards to add the final touches to the game. I was rock-hard the entire time I played through the intense, cinema-like single player, and the multi-player may just be the most fun thing ever created. Yes, even better than Slinkies. Literally the only bad parts about the game are the fact that Soap and Yuri die, and the game isn't Battlefield 3, so I'm docking a few points. You owe it to yourself to buy this game, if you don't then you're missing out on literally the greatest shooting game that every has or ever will be made. Expand

The gameplay online is completely ruined in every, and we all have our reasons to justify this. However, the campaign is still good and spec ops/survival is still better than what Battlefield 3 has to offer. My biggest problem with spec ops and survival isn't the fact that they are exact copies of the campaign missions and survival is effectively combat training on multiplayer maps, but that you can't compete on the leaderboards for survival and spec ops missions if you don't have Xbox LIVE Gold. If you can find it for a decent price I would recommend it since it doesn't have online achievements so like the other CoD games it's an easy 1000G in the bank and the achievements are well designed. Because I can't credit the multiplayer, I can only recommend this based off campaign and spec ops. Obviously it's got nothing on CoD4 but in my opinion the campaign is on par if not better than Modern Warfare 2's, purely because it plays slightly more like Call of Duty 4 and is a bit more varied and has a better story. It also concludes the trilogy whereas MW2, while it was good, felt more like a filler. It is short and easy, but not astronomically aweful like the multiplayer. Since spec ops and survival aren't anything special either (but they are still decent) MW3 isn't very good value for money. So overall, bearing in mind that it's a sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games and Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward only had a year to develop it; on balance it comes out as a 5 out of 10. However, it is perfectly acceptable to rate this game much lower based on expectations and its multiplayer. Certainly the graphics are not improved, but this is mainly due to the low resolution required to maintain 60 frames per second. I didn't buy this game on release and after reading reviews and watching gameplay I knew what to expect. I'm really struggling to give this game a 5 out of 10 because there has been so little creativity in virtually all areas, but if I ignore the title it's what I believe the game deserves on its own merits. The multiplayer has shown some improvement, but while actually playing the game you can't help but feel like you've played this game last year. The Spec Ops Survival mode is fantastic! Unlike Zombies, MW3's survival mode doesn't see you getting completely swarmed in 5 minutes. I managed to get to Wave 25 on my own, which with Zombies was impossible to even get past round 5 on my own.

Also before the game's release they were boasting about how balanced the game is, when now we have rank 1's facing off against rank 80's on the first day.

They said they were going to ban cheaters .... no bans have took place as people are still using Lag switches, and glitches.

CoD Elite premium has not added any extra content to the game so far, and after the 9 month DLC season, I can't see anyone getting Elite premium any more, as there wouldn't be any point in getting it.

    There are no "big" maps.

Overall they tried, but we got another Copy-paste-edit of last years game. Granted MW3 is better than Black ops is every way.

This game is so widespread that Activision could have forced the developers to start completely from scratch and make a new kind of CoD and people would still find reasons to hate it. The fact of it is, CoD outsells itself as the highest-selling game of all time year after year, and that's for a reason. The vocal haters of CoD are in the minority, by far. Activision knows that, and they now that they are guaranteed money if they just tweak the formula and offer players *just* enough incentive to come back. Seeing as how most of the millions upon millions of gamers to buy MW3 will be casuals who want nothing but a game to play in their spare time, that idea makes sense. I was a huge CoD4:MW fan, and my interest in the series has diminished (as is the case with many of you) over the past few installments. Now, instead of killstreaks, you have pointstreaks which is a failed attempt from IW to get rid of selfish gamers. The new gamemode - kill confirmed - actually does the opposite of what it was made to do. IW put in kill confirmed into the long list of gamemodes to try to reduce camping by forcing the killer to retrieve a dog tag the enemy drops. However, during my time with the game, I found that people would just camp in a corner, kill someone, wait to see if anyone else is around, then collect the dog tag and run back to their camping spot. Another thing that bothered me was the incredible amount of glitches the game had. IW finished the game about a month and a half early. They could have used that extra time to iron out the game (this is actually why I didn't give the game an 8).

All-in-all, this game has really disappointed me. The days of Cod4 and fun run n' gun gameplay seem to be over for the CoD franchise. If I were any of you, I would skip this game and save my money.

The fact is, this game is just a huge disappointment. Why? It's boring, that's why. Nothing new, except for a few "new" guns, and some fancy new killstreaks to play on the incredibly tedious multiplayer. Don't get this game, you'll only be fueling the beast that is Call of Duty.

Gamestyle: The game is focused around close combat, reflex based snap shooting. It is basically one adrenaline rush after another (that phrase is getting repititive). Its not competitive in any way and doesn't really add anything. 5/10
Graphics: Nothing fantastic. Nothing horrible. But at times it seemed glitchy and some of the cutscenes seemed unrealistic (planes flying through stuff). Its not awful but its far from perfect. 7.5/10

We as gamers need to be more blunt and harsh on games because we know that the so called "journalist" will not. If Activision and other companies would stop releasing the same thing every year and come up with new stuff gaming would be so much more exciting.

Now to my opinion on MW3. It is a average game with average graphics. It is fun online but is basically what we all have already seen. The SP is about 5hours long tops and the multiplayer has nothing renovating.I will say the one good thing about MP is the Kill confirmed.

Now Modern Warfare 3 to me just seems incomplete. The story is shorter, and much of the same, run here, shoot that, blow this up, get in this vehicle, rinse and repeat, which im fine with, dont get me wrong its mindless fun, no need to think just shoot. But i just cant get into Modern Warfare 3. The multiplayer is stale, it doesn't improve anything, or fix and issues that where big issues through out the series. It feels as if they have taken a step backwards. I understand if your good at something, really good at something, you keep it going but after a certain point what your good at becomes subpar and you weaknesses are exposed, and that weakness is change. In a marked flooded with similar FPS experiences you would think to break the mold, switch it up, change how we play and FPS. Modern Warfare 3 plays it safe and gives you a reboot of what was successful in Modern Warfare 2. Which to me is a shame because there is so much potential in this series and it is sad that a group as talented as Infinity Ward can only give you what they have already given you years ago. People are going to buy this game because it has Call of Duty written on it, critics are going to review this game with high remarks because it has Call of Duty written on it. Take away the call of duty label and what do you have? a sub par shooter that fails to give you anything more then what is predecessors gave you, a story that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, a spec ops mode that was thrown together on a whim, and a multiplayer that is too scared to try something new and get old very fast, faster then any mutliplayer before it. Finally, in the huge debate between Battlefield, and Cod. Each game does what they do best, cod is frantic gunplay in close quarters that forces you to stay on you toes, Battlefield is a large play area that focuses more on staying alive and strategy and vehicle play. Each game draws a different crowd. But dont rate Modern Warfare 3 because its not battlefield or its not as good, its not ment to be battlefield, its not ment to play like battlefield, its ment to be an FPS that is unique and delivers a large amount of action, but falls short of that goal by giving you the same shooter, the same story and the same everything. its not worth a 10 and its certainly not worth a 1. its a 7 at best. Fortunately, the multiplayer, even if identical, is still nice, with new rules like dog-tags (no more campers). I personally think that it is even better than Black Op's multiplayer, and a little less broken. The single player is fun too, but the story isn't much to remember. The ending (don't worry, I won't spoil) is satisfying, but is also the worst out of the 3 MW games. The gameplay has somewhat of a twist to it with new settings and such, like NY, but nothing that blows your mind. I do think the single player is better than Black Ops, though, not looking like a Michael Bay movie during the COLD WAR. Co-op is, as always, fun, but I really enjoy the new survival mode, because playing with your friends on xbox live (or psn or steam) is that much fun. Overall, if you are tired of the CoD gameplay, than skip this title, but if you are a CoD fanboy or a newcomer to the franchise, pick this up, because its not that bad. Expand

If they had changed things about the game, you would just get people raging about how it has changed too much! They kept the game similar because the older games WORKED. They had a huge fanbase and the multiplayer was good because there were always plenty of players to play games with. Sure, Activision are basically a bunch of money grabbing ****** who just want games pumped out as fast as possible but that doesn't necessarily mean that the game is bad. I found the game to have very fun multiplayer that seemed to be a touched up version of MW1/MW2. Another view that people should be taking on this is that there are many people who don't own MW2 or MW1. These people may want to purchase this game and your negative "It's no different" attitude is putting these people off purchasing it, all because you are under the impression that a game that is very well done must be completely changed just because it is a new title. Look at Halo for example. Halo 3 was a huge success with a large fanbase. With the release of Halo Reach, many people disliked it due to it's huge changes in gameplay. This could have easily happened to Modern Warfare and i can see why they kept it similar. Also, there were many people complaining that the campaign was too short or not good enough. I found it hard to believe that there were people who seemed to buy a Call of Duty game for the campaign. Military FPS campaigns tend to always be well below average in my opinion and if you want a FPS singleplayer game i would recomend playing something like Bioshock and to stop ripping on a game that is almost entirely focused on multiplayer for its campaign.

The single player campaign is worth playing and picks off where left off for MW2, however the multiplayer is what you come to expect from the ever so popular franchise. Kill confirm is something a little different than other games on the market but instead of inspiring players to work together, it feels like the exact opposite. This being the case that on multiple maps feel like there is a small standstill at times due to the camping and collecting these tags. The pace of multiplayer speeds up with team defender which doubles points of kills while holding a flag. In all honesty, these two ideas felt like a call for help with the multiplayer hitting its limit of capabilities. Graphics are exactly what to expect for a console FPS, perhaps equal to that of BF3 for consoles. After looking at reviews for this game from USA today and other news sources, I almost felt like there was something that IW/BA forgot to put in my game due to the way I feel about the actual performance of the game. The game also renamed functions such as killstreaks to pointstreaks, which can be earned multiple ways such as completing the objective or killing someone. This leads me to the coop player/unlock system of purchasing, instead of leveling, of weapons, ammo, etc... It's hard for me to go more in depth as the multiplayer is nothing special and is in need of a PC like platform to support more than the seemingly tiny amount already in place. It's competitor, Battlefield 3, has kicked it up a notch for multiplayer for PC with absolutely stunning graphics, 64 players, tons of vehicles and weapons kicks Modern Warfare 3 in the teeth and it feels evident with the gameplay that IW tried last minute add-in's that didn't quite work out to draw fans away from EA's BattleFields 3.

I was a huge fan of Modern Warfare 2 and came in with standard that surpassed in a few areas but still was let down in others. I don't blame the developers as much as the technology that Xbox & ps3 uses is a little more than just a few years old. To me the game feels more like a culture statement than an actual game due to the constant advertisements rolling on the TV, billboard, and shopping mall advertisements that hype up the game for non to occasional gamers category yet is the "same game, different name" category for me. It is worth 60% of the 60$...So 36$.

Bottom Line: A good game, however the phrase I use "same game, different name" applies. That being said, still worth a crack at it but not as addictive as MW2/BF3 felt to me.

I have found the single player campaign to be quite shallow and unfulfilling.....compared to games like Batman which pretty much keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time and coming back for more with tonnes of replayability. However once MW3 was over I felt like I'd just been stabbed and left for dead and 100 dollars poorer. So with games as epic as Batman out there you have to look at this game and wonder...where is it's soul? Seriously if games have souls then this one has none. There is no way this game is going to heaven. Even the game Dark Souls which has no heart because it's just so evil...still ironically has a soul...albeit a dark one. MW3 has no heart. It's just the same old game slapped together with explosions and slow motion gun scenes to impress 12 year olds. Not even going to attempt multiplayer as it's insulting I have to pay the elite service to view all the cool stats you can get for free on battlelog with Battlefield 3....I tried to write this without comparing it to Battlefield 3 but I couldn't help it. While Battlefield 3 is enjoying a growing online community I can't really see the COD community coming together over this one. So is it really worth playing? If you are one of those brainless type who loves action movies with no substance then this game is probably for you. Is it worth paying for? Absolutely not. It is not worth paying over 100 dollars for any game that is still using a game engine that was built in the 90's. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
