  • Summary: Dead Rising follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, an overly zealous freelance photojournalist on a hunt for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a juicy lead, he makes his way to a small suburban town only to find that it has become overrun by zombies. He escapes to the local shopping mall, thinking it will be a bastion of safety but it turns out to be anything but. It will be a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but players will have full reign of a realistic shopping center, utilizing anything they find to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic. Dead Rising features an open level of freedom and offers a vast array of gameplay possibilities. As part of a real time system, time is dynamic in Dead Rising, marching on whether Frank is actively engaged or if he is stationary. Time also plays a role as zombies become more powerful when the sun goes down. Though they move slowly during the day, the zombies become stronger and faster at night, making it even more dangerous for players to survive. The unprecedented numbers of enemies come in never-ending waves and consist of a diverse population of former humans that have retained some memory of their previous lives, which is reflected in their behavior and appearance. The variety of different stores in the mall offers players an endless supply of resources including vehicles, makeshift weapons and more. Players will also encounter other survivors along the way and by helping them can acquire valuable clues as to what has happened. Collapse

  1. The spaced out save points create a wonderfully rare sense of dread. You'll want to stock up on inventory and weapons before attempting a particularly difficult passage. And you're not always secure whether you're going to make it. This is where Dead Rising's sandbox zombie killing comes into its own.
  2. Dead Rising is not for everyone, as it does include tons of violence and gore, but the sheer number of possibilities in this game make it a wonderful addition to almost any Xbox 360 owner's library.
  3. A superb game. Probably the best title on the 360. The flaws are forgivable because it’s simply fun to play. If you are anal for completing a game in its entirety you’ll be on this forever. It’s a practical impossibility to complete all the missions and sub-missions in the 72 hour-mode (it actually lasts about 10 real-time hours).
  4. Once you look beyond the mindless killing and embark on the other styles of play the game allows then you are left with something far more fulfilling.
  5. The whole thing is simply great fun, a sort of malleable tour through the Dawn of the Dead films that clearly inspired the game. There’s a party in my Xbox 360, and all you zombies out there are invited.
  6. It's this severe push for gamers to be determined and persistent enough to explore every nook and cranny in Dead Rising that makes it either a splendid, geeky Pandora's Box full of unrelenting challenge and rewards or controller-smashingly difficult because of its hardcore mentality.
  7. Like many zombie flicks in history, this is for a cult audience only. It's a genuine shame but it just isn't very good.

The First Dead Rising, and what a game that was. Excellent gameplay, other than the forced time limit. Yes, it's true. You wont be able to complete the game on first try. We've all been there. But the (almost) free exploring makes this game, with all it's weapons that are avaible to crush and kill zomies, an epic journey through Zombie Hell. Expand

Initially I felt the same about the save problem but as an old-timer I remember having to 'earn'saves in the 90's, so I began to appreciate the challenge. This is a fairly challenging game and I appreciate it as such. Sometimes I want to wander around Oblivion and sometimes I want a set goal with a lot of difficulties in the way of achieving it. The enjoyment lies in discovery of the weapons, items, skills, and lets not forget the survivors. Structurally there is a narrative divided into sections involving you being at a certain timeand place to advance the story. Normally I hate being pushed around like that, but I enjoyed the game so much I went along with it. Expand

Dead Rising was the game that introduced me to my love of zombies and I will always forever uphold it as one of my favorite video games ever. The storyline is your average zombie apocalypse setting, but they do stuff a bit differently when it comes to zombies and what not. It's a little frustrating at first to enjoy the game, because you start off at a low level and you're very weak, but once you level up your character and get more familiar with its stiff controls, it makes for a fun experience. Highly recommended. Expand

This game IS very frustrating but after giving it a lot of time I found it to be quite
good, as I was essentially playing the video game version of my favourite film!

There were so many annoying game play mechanics that were unnecessary and stopped this being a very good game.

Its a very good game, with great moments, like when the zombies stole the car you need, the phsycopats in the car respawn or when you have a zombie in front of and you try to cut with the sword and you cut the air.
Its not a bad game, do the time your enemy its a great idea, but a very lot of things must be change...

So whats good about this game? Absolutely nothing. I bought this game because I am a zombie game fan, but this game is just plain corny and dumb. I thought 10 bucks for the game was a good deal. Now I see why it goes for 10 bucks. Because it sucks....For one, its EXTREMELY hard to save the game. At the beginning of the game, there is one save point that you have to go to. Within the first 5 minutes, you are up against a gun battle with some guy who is extremely hard to kill, jumping all over the place, and throwing bombs at you, all while you are trying to get the aiming set up to shoot the guy...which, by the way, the aiming SUCKS too....meanwhile this cell phone in the corner is constantly rining while youare trying to kill the guy which is totally annoying...by then you are dead from a bomb.....then you lose all progress and have to start from scratch all over again. The plot is rediculous, the animation sucks, the characters suck......there is nothing good about this game. Yeah picking up random things to hit at zombies, thats about the most fun you will have in this game. After dieing about 5 times in a row, after having to go through the process of starting from scratch, since its almost impossible to save....I gave up.....what a waste of 10 bucks. Sad excuse for a zombie game Expand
