Dead Space 3 evolves the winning formula into a title not only befitting of the fantastic series, but also one of the best games of this generation.

Dead Space 3 capitalizes on everything that made its predecessors great, and expertly executes everything new. It has the psychological scares and claustrophobic environments of the first two games, but proves they aren’t the only ingredients for a tense experience, adding vast expanses that alter both the mood and gameplay.

Visceral hasn't just avoided screwing up its game with co-op — it has made it feel natural and at home, and has done it without impacting the single-player experience in any negative way. That alone would be enough to make Dead Space 3 an achievement. But the new crafting system and bigger, more open level structure join co-op to make Dead Space 3 one of the best action games in years.

A definite buy if you're a fan of the Dead Space series and even if you're not. If you are like me and had doubts about the game based on the demo that was released a few weeks prior to its release then just know that the full game is much better than the demo.

Dead Space 3's action filled gameplay offers a great experience for those who enjoy a cooperative adventure, but its suspenseful and intense plot also makes it appropriate for players who would rather face Hell alone.

Even ignoring the common complaint that the developers moved away from the scares to a more action driven experience (something I don’t completely agree with), Dead Space 3 is still thrilling, terrifying, intense, and completely worth your time.

With Nine chapters and an ending chapter to adventure through on your own or with a friend, Dead Space 3 is a worthwhile ride to horror and adventure.

Dead Space 3 isn't necessarily a full blown improvement over Dead Space 2 but it comes pretty damn close. The team have done a great job at keeping the key aspects of the universe mysterious and yet expanding on them considerably to tell a very engaging story of an alien race.

An exciting, shocking and mammoth adventure through the ghostly, unvarnished segments of space – and you do, thankfully, get to spend some more time flying. There aren't many games that can match the elegiac, liberating movements of Isaac Clarke in nullified gravity, or his vengeful, squishy stomps of victory...Huh, maybe I enjoyed more of Dead Space 3 than I thought.

Despite many premises that could be frightful for the classic fan, Dead Space 3 turns out to be another chapter true to the spirit of the series. Co-op play isn't intrusive and the traditional survival horror structure is safe.

An incredibly deep and expanding story and much of the Dead Space feel returning, albeit turned down a little, as well as all the new systems and elements will definitely divide fans, but may be more accessible to newcomers, which is always welcomed with such a rich franchise. Even with the familiarity this delivers a monstrous amount of satisfaction.

Putting the game’s flaws behind, Dead Space 3 is still a fantastic game, the gore and additional cooperative missions house some intriguing effects, and the tension of hallways filled with enemies never fail to keep you coming back for more.

Visceral dodged this bullet while taking serious risks that ultimately paid off. The new crafting engine is a triumph, but the cooperative multiplayer and the complete storyline that unfolds inside of it sets the bar for how cooperative play should be done. Balancing the horror between the single player experience and the multiplayer experience without damaging either is impressive.

While the buzz surrounding the game brought fear to a lot of the series’ veteran players over the past few months, I’m happy to report that the final product is a near-perfect balance of classic Dead Space and action-oriented gameplay.

Dead Space 3 offers a huge variety of situations and epic moments, and becomes an amazing roller-coaster ride. Is it less scary? Maybe, but the game has tons of sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Even if this episode has turned the series into a action game – even though there's many survival horror fans out there – we must admit it's a very good game. It provides great closure for the trilogy: long, spectacular and relatively different, but keep in mind that terror is not the main theme any longer.

Dead Space 3 is a fantastic game, but one that players should go into with eyes open. The series has evolved beyond simply being a horror title, and moved on to being more akin to a large, AAA game. The passion and level of care Visceral has always displayed is still here, even if the focus feels more on intense encounters and action, rather than simply scaring the crap out of the player.

We expected a lot from Dead Space 3 and were not disappointed. The game keeps all its promises, with true moments of tension proving that Visceral Games hasn’t betrayed the Dead Space series. Horror is there, and we have never seen such violent Necromorphs. This perfect balance between action sequences and anguish is efficient, avoiding Dead Space 3 making the same mistake as Resident Evil 6. But we must be honest with the fans: if the next Dead Space has more action scenes, there will be reason to fear the worst. Since it’s not a perfect game, it’s important to highlight the poor cover system and the lack of boss fights. Although the deep weapon crafting system is likely to annoy the purists, Dead Space 3 remains a great experience you have to live.

Dead Space 3 remains close to the series, despite the new co-op mode, the bench feature and the new global ammo system. If you loved the previous chapter you can’t miss the epic conclusion.

I‘m torn. The objective journalist says: "It’s an eye-/eargasm and thanks to its awesome weapon-crafting it's damn fun. The Fanboy within rants: "This is no Dead Space".

Dead Space 3 is no more Survival than Dead Space 2. The game is therefore capable of maintaining the elevated nervous tension and to involve players in an interesting adventure.

Sure Dead Space 3 is familiar, but fans wouldn't have it any other way. If you have been in love since the first entry, then you already probably own this game and don’t need my opinion. On the other hand, if you have played the previous two and weren't sold, there’s nothing that is going to change your mind here to make you a convert, unless of course there’s a marker nearby…

Though I feel Dead Space 3 may not be the strongest of all the three Dead Space games I found I still enjoyed it thoroughly and feel that it is definitely a title that should be on every action gamer’s radar.

Some will take issue with Dead Space 3 on a fundamental level, given that it shirks many classical survival-horror tenets to pursue and action-heavy path. But when the action is generally so good, it's hard to stay crazy with Visceral for long. [Issue#95, p.73]

While it deviates a little from the original concept of the franchise, Dead Space 3 still delivers a great sci-fi experience with some horror elements, a good story and some superb graphics. You won't be disappointed.

Dead Space series has evolved and changed as well as its main protagonist. In Dead Space 3 there is no longer that lone and frightened engineer called Issac, armed with just a harmless cutter. This time he clears his way through darkness, frost, mutants along with Unitologists' limbs, with elegance of a world saviour expert. Dead Space 3 offers a different experience than its predecessors, which is not detrimental, on the contrary. Do not let its otherness discourage you.

The oddest thing, however, is how a game that's so breathlessly paced for a good 12 hours succumbs to bloat. As Dead Space 3 creaks towards its denouement, you get the feeling that Visceral packed the first three quarters of the game with such incident, they ran out of stuff to include in the final stretch. It's never dull, but never as consistently engaging either.

As a huge fan of both Dead Space 1 and 2 I thought this would be a massive disappointment, but Dead Space 3 successfully illustrates that it's tension I crave from these sorts of games, not fear. Because Dead Space 3 anchors its tension in the challenge the game presents, the player is able to customise how tense an experience they have through the difficulty settings (and it gets pretty bloody difficult). This is a good thing, and both Dead Space fans and sci-fi fans will get a lot out of this sci-fi shooter.

One's enjoyment of Dead Space 3 depends on how much one is prepared to surrender to Visceral's new vision for their horror IP. If you're after a rollicking action title that provides countless opportunities to blast away at slavering monsters, Dead Space 3 could well be one of the most exciting titles you play all year. But if you're one of the Dead Space faithful who was seduced by this series' ability to deliver a survival horror experience shot through with moments of white-knuckled terror, be warned: Dead Space 3 has left that terrain and doesn't look set to return to it any time soon.

Less scary.....yes. But just as intense as DS2. They have packed this game with more epic moment that the first two iterations had as well. The availability of microtransactions is a little bit of a let down. But you do NOT have to purchase them. They are optional and can be earned through natural progression. IMHO, this is not the best Dead Space game. But it stands proud as a worthy entry into the Dead Space universe. I would compare it to the difference between Killzone 2 and 3. 3 was a really good game and technically superior. But 2 had that little extra magic and lore. At the same time, both earned there place on my book shelf and in my system for different reason. Bottom line, if you loved DS1 and DS2, you won't be disappointed in 3. Full Review »
