I so much want to enjoy this game but the number of spin outs at low speed is causing me to turn it off as soon as I turn it on. Even slight collisions cause me to ram head first into railings. Gorgeous graphics but frustrating as hell.

At last a racing game which is actually exciting to play and the only one I've played with a realistic and usable in car view.

I just bought it yesterday and I have to say that this is one of the best racing games I ever played. Graphics are absolutely stunning, replays are out of this world. Career mode is really good and racing itself is very very enjoyable. AI is surprisingly solid and way better than AI from any other game. The only thing what I would like to see is more cars, but I bet Codies will prepare good DLC content anytime soon. So if you are a fan of good driving games you have to get GRID. Having played the full game, all I can say is WOW!! Grid is all about racing and it's as simple as that, I know that there are the FORZA 2 addicts and this is going to be compared a lot, but Grid and Forza are two totally separate games and neither can be compared to each other. No denying that Forza is a dam fine game but things have to move on, Grid is a little different, grid makes sure that every player will always be equal to every other player, this means that if you come first, its down to your skill at driving and not having a car that has been set up via a suspension calculator. Grid is also a lot more forgiving than Forza for the simple reason that the game wants you to spend more time on the track than in the gravel. As far as I can tell there are 4 modes of play. Touring car Muscle car Drift racing Demolition Derby. Code masters have tried to cater for everyone, touring car is similar to previous versions of Toca Muscle is more grip racing Drift is in my opinion is not needed at all And demolition derby is an absolute riot But if you are a Forza addict you are totally welcome to turn off all driving assists and you will find Grid almost identical in handling to Forza. Meaning you have to brake progressively and control acceleration to make sure you don't spin out, for the pro driver, turning off the assists will give you the advantage but for the players who just want to race and have fun in doing some fun racing, keep those driving assists on. Either way what you have is the next evolution in driving games. It's going to be almost impossible to get the Forza fan base to play GRID because the people I have come across all say it's to Arcady, I personally think that they are afraid to take on a new challenge. The only thing preventing GRID from being the Racing King is the lack of features common in the genre such as Time Attack mode, qualifying, practice etc... The length of Grid world races cannot be changed limiting you 2 and 3 lap sprints even in 'endurance' events. Otherwise, this is near perfect.

The physics are poor, the controls are poor unless you want to spring for a racing wheel. Over all about as realistic a driving sim as Pole Position, and less fun as an arcade driving game than Pole Position. This game is counter intuitive for anybody who has actually driven a car. Cars don't respond that way. Cars don't spin out when you hit the gas without turning the wheel, especially in 6th gear. They certainly don't redline in 6th from a dead stop and then spin out. Automatic Transmissions don't hit 65 MPH before they shift. Cars don't spin out when you accelerate out of a turn. But that's not the big problem I have with this game. The bit problem is control. The buttons on the 360 controller are pressure sensitive. Other racing games get it right. Grand Theft Auto gets it right. Most console games for the last several years have gotten it right. Why does Grid treat the controls on the Xbox as if there are only two settings, full on and full off? I don't want to pay an extra $100 for a force feedback steering wheel so that I can play this game. To be complementary, it has nice graphics, it has nice tracks and it has nice cars. After playing this game I found it to be one of the most enjoyable racers to date. Codemasters have took the game back to basics and focused on developing a game that will constantly aim to please. You don't have the library full of cars like from other games such as Forza and PGR but this will not affect you at all because from the minute you start on the grid to the moment you race through the finish line you will be injected with an overdose of bliss. Your heart beats and your hands tremble as you struggle to maintain first place, one second of over steer could lose you that prime spot on the podium. First of all something positive: the graphics. Stunning and probably the best graphics ever seen in a racing game. Sad but true, the game behind the graphics is a piece of.. Cars slide around like butter on a hot pan. AI is virtually unmovable. Spinouts are way too common and unrealistic. It's like cars have no traction in this game. One tap from an opposing car and you're spinning out of control. Cars aren't customizable. What?!!?!? Forget engine changes, or paint colors. The implication is that you're too stupid to handle changing things on your car. Only 45 cars. Lame. Multiplayer ghosts cars that aren't on the same lap as you, so you can drive straight through them. Likewise, they can't just stop and cause pile-ups. This is both a pro and a con. No boosts or Nos. Glitchy playback. Bad bug. Pros: Beautiful graphics. Good camera doesn't block your view or hesitate at corners. Excellent multiplayer menu. I never wanted to finish a racing game that bad.. Forget air pressures and balancing tires, just drive. Killer graphics, killer replays, lots of fun. 10 is less I could give... get it

When I picked up this game I thought it would be a fun driving/racing sim. What I thought was wrong very wrong... From the first race I noticed that I would just hate this game, after hitting a few objects my tires got messed up and making another lap or 2 is just impossible then. The CPU players are over the top good drivers which is just annoying for beginning players or people who prefer to just race a bit for fun because winning is nearly impossible. So unless you are a hardcore driving/racing gamer this game is not for you.… Expand

Best racer to come out in ages. Really exciting and the flashback idea is wicked. All of the types of cars are brill but the destruction derby cars and races are laugh-out-loud funny and very tense. A highly recommended game.

Easily the best racing game on Xbox 360. The handling of the cars is varied, although a bit arcade-ish (didn't try the simulation mode), but it's so fun it doesn't matter. The variety of cars is also reduced, with few options for every discipline. But with so many and so different racing disciplines available, it really doesn't matter. Compared with other heavy weights like FM2 or PGR4, it lacks a bit on the single player mode features (the campaign is rather short). The multiplayer is really well thought, the voting system allows to change racing discipline without having to create our own rooms, and the races are usually fun and challenging. I don't give it a 10 because there's still some room for improvement, for example the loading times are long and some tracks are way too dark for my TV :). Definitely recommended.… Expand

GRID is the best racing game i've ever played. Graphics are superb. Some people question the physics behind the cars, however i feel the cars react as i would expect them to (Feels even better with a wheel). I've never experienced any pauses or stutters when playing, smooth as silk to me. Winning the Le-Mans is a huge thrill, adrenaline pumping action all the way! The audio is especially good, the roars of the engines and screeching of tires. I'm not really big on multiplayer, but GRID do pull it off well. Only prob is people just try and take you out. And the average XboxLive player isn't known for sportsmanship.… Expand

Good graphics, impressive crash damage and notably the best driving AI I have seen yet. Also, a good range of vehicles and tracks falling into the distinct categories of American, European and Japanese. Career mode is long but not repetitive. Races are intense and fast-paced and a lot of fun and there are also drifting competitions and destruction derbies thrown into the mix. Online play is really good and there are various other touches here and there that leave a highly-polished game, that is only let down by repetitive replay music.… Expand

I think this is the best racing game in this current gen, but not the most complete one. PGR4 has more online features, while Forza 2 has a more in-depth single player. BUT, both games lack the skill and excitement this game has to offer. Driving-wise, this isn't a simulator, but it offers the best and most specular races you will see for a long while. And I personally love the fact that all cars are equal i.e. not much customization, as it makes racing more interesting and ultimately much harder to win or judge what will happen. Crashes are burnout like, but even more pleasurable to witness, whether its first hand or its seeing others roll off the track. And it is the fear of crashing that keeps you on your seat of your chair, as one major impact will end your race unlike other racers. But then you can rewind the game via four pauses or less in each race, to retake that corner or avoid that plie-up. Gimmicky? Not really, as you will at least use it once and won't remove the sense of joy to win one bit. Online is a bit basic, so is the single player. But you know what, its HUGE AMOUNTS OF FUN! And that is all you want, not to fall asleep as in Forza or get bemused what to do in PGR. Simply every petrol head must buy for this year!… Expand

Brilliant racing game - much more fun than ForzzZZa and better than PGR - handling is really nice - think Colin Mcrae Rally on PS2 but with up to 11 other cars to race against!

Pros: amazing graphics and sounds, nice online and single career mode cons: controls are on the loose side, very sensitive trigers, low count number of licensed cars.

I just can't put into words the extreme disappointment I feel after waiting for this game to be released. It just doesn't live up to all the hype that I was reading. This thing is going to be traded in as soon as I can get back to the store.

Not really up there with the Gran Tourismos and Forzas of the world and dont Codemasters know it...to the point where they take a cheap swipe at those games in the product description. Its really like the Colin Mcrae DIRT team took their hand to a different realm of racing which in itself aint bad if it werent already ruled over by its peers. While it's fair for hardcore racing game fans to criticize the game for not having the massive number of cars and customization options that some of the other games out there make a top priority, everything that GRID sets out to do it does flawlessly, smoothly, and I might even say perfectly. It still offers an impressive variety of racing styles and customization in terms of the livery and corporate sponsorships your racing team chooses to accept, and above all else it achieves a wonderful balance between realism and fun, remaining often challenging while seldom producing the frustration so many racing games seem to degrade into sooner or later. It makes the racing world and the struggle to climb your team to the top feel real and engaging and challenging, while at the same time just being a lot of -fun-, which personally I think is what gaming should be all about at the end of the day. This is...hands down the best racer I’ve played in a long, long time, If you want a SIM racer turn the settings to hard take traction control off, no brake assist, choose manual and use the Xbox 360/PS3 Wheel and wallah its like the real thing, if you want more of a tame arcade racer turn every thing to easy! I’m sick of people saying "I want to customise my car or change the settings on my car" ! Why? Unless you are a mechanic or work with pit crew there is no point that’s their job, your job is to RACE, and that’s exactly what this game does...gives you a chance to really feel the power and excitement of a real race! (Not sitting in a garage fixing a car and getting points for how dirty you hands are getting). You don’t get much better than hitting a wall at 260 clicks while watching cars fly over you head as you hit the slomo stick. This game is a must have! In a second you can go From careering down the straight coming first to receiving a slight nudge to the back of your car that spirals you off the track into a brick wall or tyres but smiling as it happens knowing if you choose you have a replay mode that lets you redo that part of the track with the push of a button. The physics model used doesn't seem to update often enough to give you the feeling that you're actually controlling the car. The AI has lapses in which appears to not know you exist on the track. There are issues on some Xboxes where the game freezes for 1 - 2 seconds mid race.

Beautiful graphics, but I'm with those who feel that the steering mechanics are extremely frustrating. No matter how much I try to press lightly on the accelerator, my car keeps spinning out of control (especially at low speeds). I played the demo months ago and quickly deleted it. I rented it yesterday and, after playing it with both the standard controller and the xbox wheel, my initial negative impressions are confirmed. I have played and thoroughly enjoyed games like PGR3 and 4, Dirt, Forza 2 and a bunch of older games. While I would love nothing more than enjoy Grid, it's just not happening. Instead my gaming sessions end in frustration. While graphics, interface and all the other nice touches in the game are very well done, I must give this game a low mark (if it's not fun to play, then everything else matters little). I'm glad to see others are enjoying, but I just can't get over the driving mechanics.… Expand

This Game is straight up, one of the best arcade racers on the market.... Graphics are top notch, The controls are Smooth as could be.. But, the thing that got my attention most was the replay save idea... In the middle of the game if you mess up there is no need to restart... Just go to the Replay and you can continue anywhere 20 secs from your mess up... This does affect how much money you make and the reputation that you get though so you only do it when you need too. If you love Racers or just having fun, this is the game for you..… Expand

Gran Turismo, in my eyes, was the king of all "realistic" racers. GRID has satisfied my "realistic" racing needs, when 360 is missing a great racer like Gran Turismo. You can look up any youtube video, and watch game play from this game and see how amazing the graphics are. The racing is solid, not unresponsive at all. Every car feels like it races different. I like that about a game, adds some more difficulty so you don't zoom through the game. It is not a very deep game, for instance, like Gran Turismo. Though, it has it's own core experience and it's own depth that goes great with the game flow. Since the recent lackluster Need for Speed games, GRID is an awesome choice if you are looking for a racing game to kill time.… Expand

The damage is amazingly good, graphics are awesome, viewpoints from racing are great, plenty of racetypes (Formula 3, Drifting, Touring Cars, Stock cars ect ect...) and the tracks are quite challenging, on the downsides sometimes the AI screws up a bit, and a certain team there are, lets say "unfairly powerful" which makes racing against them quite hard...but overall well worth the buy

GRID may not be greatest racer of 2008, but it is indeed the most fun. Grid is not one of those racers that pursue realistic driving mechanics or true to life physics. In fact, physics and driving have been blown out of proportion to give us a racer that that defines pure entertainment. Grid was built on the EGO engine, which powered Colin Mcrae: Dirt. The engine went through a complete overhaul to suit Grid's needs. The handling mechanics have been tweaked, to give Grid more of an arcade feel. The damaging model has returned from Dirt, which makes collisions cinematic and authentic. You will find yourself making use of the flashback feature to view your crashes over and over again, along with restarting at a point before the collision and learn from your previous mistake. Grid has a lengthy career mode that includes, point-to-point races, time trials, drifting and demolition derbies. A great inclusion was the Le Mans 24 hour, but it does get repetitive from time to time. The game does have some minor drawbacks, such as a low car count. There are 45 premium cars to be unlocked, but it just never feels like enough. However, Codemasters has released DLC which will up that number, assuming you are willing to pay for it, of course. Another annoyance, is the voiceovers, which becomes stale a few races into the game. One will get tired of hearing the same commands being repeated throughout the lengthy career. Nonetheless, this is a fun, adrenalin pumping racer that will appeal to casual and hardcore gamers alike. Even if you have a vague interest in track racing, I suggest you go out and purchase Grid. Really enjoy this one but it is a bit hard to get over the AI cars tank like prowess and the faster the cars get the more annoying the differential. Honestly love the Destruction derby racing, makes me remember hours of fun linking up two playstations to play destruction derby. If you don't like muscle cars however this is not the game for you.
