  1. Tuning the numerous parts of your car provides for some decent variation, but you’ll soon figure out that the actual gameplay just isn't very good.
  2. An utter waste of time and you money, please ensure this unambitious racer never enters your 360. [Issue 13, p.88]
  3. If you enjoy customising your car, however, you'll quite possibly wet your pants with excitement. [Issue 17, p.67]
  4. Though it's fun to earn enough credit points to pimp your licensed Mazda, Toyota, or Nissan into a serious ride via performance upgrades, ITC's featureless concrete racing environments, detached driving physics, MIA damage modeling, and dated graphics bleed too much air from the tires. [Holiday 2006, p. 80]

If this were a $20 budget title, then it'd be worth a purchase. But at the Xbox 360 standard $60 at the register, there's no way you should bother with Import Tuner Challenge. Wait for "Need For Speed Carbon," instead.
  6. Petrolheads and tuning fans will probably get a kick out of it for a short while, but the lack of any sense of speed, the monotony of doing the same thing time after time from the beginning of the game to the end and the fact that the development team have forgotten to add the slightest bit of personality means that you probably shouldn’t bother.
  7. The millions of customization options are great for gear heads, but the actual racing is monotonous, and the diversity in locales and time of day is nonexistent.

For anyone who is a fan of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer games this one is a must buy. Import Tuner Challenge is a highway racer that takes place on the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway, and does an excellent job at re-creating the actual Tokyo highway. The game looks great, with the graphics being a little out of date compared to newer games but still very good for a game that was released at Xbox360's launch.
Players looking for something different and unique will find it with this game. Rather than racing to finish your laps in first you will have an 'SP' bar that diminishes when you either fall behind, hit walls or other vehicles, that alone makes this game one of a kind.
With hundreds of rivals to race and 'wanderers' to challenge you will find hours of gameplay to enjoy.
The customization in this game is also excellent and actually gives you a sense of personalization, far more than most games in the racer genre.
The music is a little lame in this game when compared to the Tokyo Xtreme racer titles but does fit with the time period they were going for in this game.
My only complaint with this game are the major lacking of vehicles you can customize. As in the Tokyo Xtreme Racer games the player was given a massive list of vehicles to choose from as the player beat rivals and unlocked more vehicles. Where as this game has 15 or so to choose from, somewhat limiting the player in that regard. However if you have never played a Tokyo Xtreme Racer game then this wont be a problem for you.
Great game, awesome customization, addictive gameplay, real location, unique racer, not enough car selection. 8/10

Why do people hate this. Its just a slightly more realistic Wangan midnight! Same delveloper, Same tracks(on some games). Made by the tokyo extreme racer team. Its an awsome arcade racing game that would feel great if you use a wheel! Full Review »

Other great racing title. Import Tuner Challenge can not be original, fresh, better, but is really funny. The system for personalize your car is great, the tracks are repetitive, the cars are cool. This game is funny, no more. Full Review »
