  • Summary: (Also known as "Kengo Zero") Kengo: Legend of the 9 sets players in feudal Japan on a mission to become the best samurai warrior in the land. The game features nine real samurai warriors: Musashi Miyamoto, Jubei Yagyu and Sanako Chiba, among others. Each has his/her own storyline, attack techniques and upgradeable attributes (health, stamina, attack power and defense). Four modes of play offer a range of gameplay options, including the storyline advancing Main Mode; Mission Mode which challenges players to complete 10 missions within a specific time frame; Combat Mode that features two-player, head-to-head battles; and Xbox Live Leaderboard where players compete for new equipment and the best ranking against other Xbox Live gamers by pitting AI profiles against each other.     Kengo has the right idea, but fails miserably to deliver a solid experience, substituting game modes and substance with repetition.

    Kengo: Legend of the Nine alternates between boring players and murdering them. There is some satisfaction to be gained from multiplayer matches, but there’s not really enough variety to make it worth the price of entry.

    In case you haven't been paying attention for the past 1,000 or so words, you have to really like samurai to want to play this. And I mean really, really like samurai.

    A great deal of smoke with little flame, this game has the potential to be significantly better if perhaps more time was spent on developing some sort of plot…any plot really, rather than the endless wanderings and inevitable rival battles thrown at us.

    IGN is wrong... This game is tight and delivers the fun of the original Bishindo Blade... Then again the reviewer probably wasn't even born yet when the original B.B. was in the stores... Great game if you like fighters... At least you not on a small stage like many fighters.… Expand

    I bought this game used for $13. It wasn't worth it. I'm generally pretty tolerant when it comes to games but the lack of horizontal camera view option made this game near unplayable. Who in their right mind decided "Hey, lets make you have to thumbstick left to turn the camera right! Then give them no option to change it!"

    I came >< close to playing frizbee with the disk but I decided returning it for a buck would be better. Then again, I'm not sure if my concience should allow me the possibility of unleashing this drivel game onto someone else.    … Expand

    Alright I bought this game the day it came out after watching the Preview on XBOX LIVE. I was sorely disappointed I promised myself that I would NEVER trade in a game for my 360... well I traded this one in. Its very hard to get into and after awhile it get boring REALLY boring. I remember bushido blade. Thats what I thought this game was gonna be like it. It isnt. I suggest just buying a PS1 and BB1&2 if thats the game you want because both of the BB titles CRUSH this game.     I should never have rented this. The colorful cover was a clever marketing ploy. The game mechanics are dreadful. From the start, I should have known this was a poor execution at samurai fighting when they couldn't even make random-looking enemies. This could have been so much better. They could have used the thumbsticks to mimic actual fencing. Instead, it turns into stupid, repetitive button mashing. Also, get the main menu right! Why do we have to restart the game every time we change an option? And why only give us 3 unlocked characters to start with? Why can't we customize our own samurai? This game plays like a graduate thesis for game developer school. Skip it. Not even worth a rental.… Expand
