Mass Effect certainly has a few flaws, but it's easily the most enthralling space adventure that's ever been created for a video game platform. It honestly makes the Halo narrative look like amateur hour!
  2. Mass Effect is a triumph. A triumph for the science fiction video game, a triumph for the action RPG and a triumph for next generation gaming. And it sets up the sequel perfectly. I want to know what happens next.
  3. Mass Effect is still enjoyable enough to warrant 24 hours of play (completion with sub-missions), and the stops it makes en route are visually stunning. It just doesn't find what it goes looking for: the myth and exotica to accurately follow Star Wars. [Christmas 2007, p.86]

Mass Effect has a great story, it is in depth and has excellent characters and settings. Its amazing Sci-Fi Universe is the one of the best I have seen in any Sci-Fi game to date. Music and sound effects are really good and build up the feel of the game and the areas. The voice acting is also well done. Graphics look great, the environments look just beautiful and well detailed, the characters models look excellent and the animations are still really good despite a few frame rate and texture issues. is still excellent .The game also gives the player dialogue options which is the first of its kind seen in a game and a player can choose to respond in a way he wants to and the game allows the player that kind of a fighter he wants to be if he wants to be a Biotic (Mage), Soldier, Vanguard (Mage/Soldier) or Engineer each class has their own set of weapons and own special powers and all offer a unique experience. You get experience by even doing the smallest of things and once you have enough XP you can level up and spend skills points earned from the level up in the skills tree to improve the abilities of yourself and your partners. Speaking of Squad mates they are kind of a pain in combat their aiming sucks and they die very quickly and are not that competitive and durable but they provide enough assistance to help you clear an area, the best use I can get out of the mates is by using the power wheel to make them use their special powers against various enemies and this actually helps by alot in combat. The enemy A.I? Most of them take cover out in the open way allowing you to kill them easily or apparently spam rockets which for some reason kill you instantly even if your health is up to max. The game has alot of guns and mods but the guns or armor do not have that much variety, weapon mods are good but the armor mods to increase health are still useless the enemies for some reason still manage to one hit you with rockets and sniper rifles, what is the point of giving you so much health upgrades when you still get one hitted? The sidequests are fun, they can get repetitive but the backstory behind them is so interesting and deep and you will be willing to do them, plus there is also enemy variety when it comes to sidequests, you don't fight Geth all the time so they are fun as hell and who doesn't want some bonus XP. As far as the Mako goes, I thought it was a fun vehicle yeah the controls are bad but it adds a sense of exploration and freeroam even though I know some people would consider them point less and it is just mad fun going out there fighting enemies and blowing s**t up with this bada**. The Mako just needed improvement it didn't have to be removed completely in ME 2. In the end Mass Effect is a really great game which is held back by some flaws but its definitely one of the best games out this Gen. Expand

A decent game and a fine collection artifact if you own a 360. Newer and established visual techniques applied in here but I found the game lacking in anticipation department. Its a RPG you know and its always a thrill to disover which planet you are going to visit next and how will it fare? but you'll find more of the same there, one environment repeats over and over... the mystery of the universe is just not expressed here. I had way more fun discovering tonnes of planets with differing characters, environments, monsters and huge environmental bosses in Rogue Galaxy last year. Expand

Ignore the salesmen of the game that go to web sites like this one and give the game all tens. I love RPGs, and Jade Empire is still in my favorite top 10 RPGs of all time (I have played it all the way through 3 times). This game was awful for the following reasons: (1) the female hair styles looked like the primary hair care product used was gel super glue, (2) the armor sets for the femaie character were BORING, (3) at a critical point in the story line, the hero could have aaved a race by downloading data to a disk (as was done previous times in the game), but didn't think of it, (4) if you hated what happened regarding Jean Gray and Nightcrawler in Marvel Ultimate Alliance, you'll hate this story. I quit playing the game and took it back to the store at this point in Mass Effect. If you want to play a really good RPG, play Jade Empire. Expand
