All in all, Medal of Honor: Warfighter is a nice surprise after last year's let down of sorts, and it's nice to see the direction that the studio is going for by blending realism that is inspired by true events but keeping game play mild enough that casual fans won't feel too overwhelmed.

Warfighter is just one of many shooters on the market. It has no distinctive treats and no particular refinements that can differentiate it from the mediocrity of others.

The game brings nothing new to the shooting genre; it's predictable and seems to be nothing more than a stop-gap before EA's behemoth Battlefield 4 is eventually released. Warfighter could have been so much more, but alas it wasn't.

A decent addition to the series, Warfighter brings some new ideas to the mix and offers a solid experience for every FPS fan. Its main issue is the lack of vision to push a bit further from the classic formula and offer something unique.

The major fault of Medal of Honor: Warfighter is the missing unique characteristic. Except for the Fireteam there are no innovations and whilst the single player campaign is too short everything in it feels long-known and you simply can't escape the "been there done that feeling".

Medal of Honor's reboot in 2010 was high speed, low drag, but this year's title just feels like a rush job – a little 6P (Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance) could have gone a long way.

    Decidedly 'meh.' [Jan 2013, p.64]

A completely unconvincing campaign is coupled with a good multiplayer with some interesting modes and choices.
  9. 65
There's fun to be had, but there's still quite a long way to go for the Medal of Honor series to bridge that gap between Battlefield and Call of Duty, and hit the high notes it once did.

Medal of Honor Warfighter is another War FPS with generic and too short campaign. Its multiplayer adds some interesting stuff to a classic formula, but it's limited by the lack of variety and size of the maps.

Same old story, we already saw everything from MOH: Warfighter in other games. Nothing really new to discuss.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter's strong visual design and online gameplay are its most impressive features. That being said, gamers have little to immerse themselves with in the single-player campaign.

In spite of some strong individual elements, it ends up feeling like a sloppy and ultimately pointless conflict. Focusing on superficial distinctions that add nothing to the game, Warfighter lacks a convincing reason to fight, and there's no reason anyone should pick up the banner apart from brand loyalty or sheer boredom.

It's like a soap opera demanding that you give a damn about this person when you barely even know them.

That being said, Warfighter isn't necessarily a bad game, and there are some fantastic set-pieces and nice ideas in the multiplayer mode.

Warfighter is a decent multiplayer cross-over between Battlefield and Call of Duty. However, stay far away from the bug filled and linear single player campaign.

While it is certainly not offensive on any level, it also fails to be impressive most of the time. The campaign is all over the place, and the Fire Team mechanic is outstanding, but the rest feels inconsistent at times, and incomplete at others.

While this globetrotting, tier-one engagement has some fun beneath its gritty fingernails, it fails as the category flag-bearer it wants to be. And that's unfortunate, because Medal of Honor innovated in its gunplay-friendly space so many years ago. Now, it stands as a bastion of blasé.
  19. Oct 27, 2012

It does all the things that sort of game is supposed to do, but not with the flair or invention that would make it possible to care again about playing something you remember having played so many times before.

You shouldn't dismiss the game as wholly unworthy: online multiplayer is good fun, and the campaign shows signs of life, occasionally letting you see past the me-too warfare and appreciate a brief flash of imagination. But on the whole, Warfighter leaves you thinking, "Yep, that's a military shooter, all right." Its heroes strive for greatness; the game they star in is merely serviceable.
  21. After playing Call of Duty, with its ultra-smooth animation, Medal of Honor: Warfighter feels positively sluggish. I found myself constantly sprinting just to get that feeling of motion I'm used to in Modern Warfare and Black Ops.

Medal of Honor is trying to do the good thing. Although the game looks pretty good, there are plenty of graphical bugs. The action in the game just doesn't flow naturally because of the many slow moments. The game does better in the multiplayer modes but still there is a lot of room for improvement.
  23. 55
It is average in almost every department, and if you choose to play without the day one patch and graphics install it devolves into a buggy broken mess, though even with the optimum requirements it fails to start up to its rivals. Man down.
  24. 55
At its core, Warfighter is hurt by its significant technical issues and its cobweb-covered, stale design choices. Warfighter isn't a terrible game, but it really isn't worth your time when other titles do everything it tries to do so much better.

While there's enjoyment to be had here, it is fleeting and often devolves rapidly into frustration and boredom. I feel bad saying that, because the folks at Danger Close seemed intensely passionate about their work and there's simply so much potential in here, but it clearly needed more time if it was to develop into anything truly unique and compelling.
  26. 50
Okay in short bursts, but there's no reason to play single-player. A huge missed opportunity on EA's part and another year it won't be taking COD's crown. [Issue#92, p.78]

The console versions of Warfighter definitely aren't the most polished and entertaining modern shooters on the market. Considering the expectations that there were on this series, we can call Medal of Honor a victim of EA's friendly fire.

A mediocre wargame that fails to impress. A short, 6-hour-long story which is hard to follow, does not hit any emotional buttons or give enough adrenalin-pumping moments. A decent multiplayer, but nothing that has not been done before in the genre.
  29. 50
The whole time you're playing Warfighter, just behind the sofa, there's a camouflaged Call of Duty-sized elephant sitting in the room - busying itself by practicing scope kills with its trunk. To go up against that beast Warfighter needed to impress on its own terms, and really deliver something new and exhilarating. Instead we got a cloning experiment that went badly awry.

Warfighter isn't a total failure, but it's certainly not up to the standards of the international Tier 1 Operators it clings to.
  31. Oct 25, 2012

The uninspired single-player campaign, uneven multiplayer execution, and rampant presence of glitches undermine Medal of Honor: Warfighter's efforts to join the Tier 1 of military shooters.
  32. 50
The real threat to Warfighter's longevity is how its multiplayer maps feel like patchworks of arbitrary buildings and debris instead of bona fide real-world strongholds. Without a palpable sense of place, these battlegrounds never give you enough reason to choose this particular universe of gunmetal and grit over any other.
  33. Oct 25, 2012

Warfighter has a really rough and unfinished feel to it, and it doesn't help that it lacks anything original or something that's better than what the competitors offer. Medal of Honor: Warfighter is just very mediocre in the end - save your hard earned money for something better.
  34. Oct 24, 2012

Excessively propagandist and clearly not on par with this packed holidays season, Warfighter's solo lacks the fun it would require for accepting its over-the-top military apology and super-biased views of the world, despite some really nice initiatives like the vehicle sequences. Multiplayer-wise, it's clearly improved with a real class-based formula and duo gameplay tactics, but is that enough with what's coming? We don't think so.

Charmless, cynical, and uninspired, Warfighter encapsulates everything wrong with the annual big budget shooter industry. It's really not an awful game, it's just insipid and shallow, a title that exists solely to exist, and squeeze whatever profit remains to be had from serving the same flavorless porridge to the same unadventurous customers.
  36. Oct 25, 2012

Medal of Honor Warfighter fails in almost every regard. Warfighter's campaign is a jumble of flashy parts that Danger Close unsuccessfully tries to glue together, and the solid foundation of its multiplayer is buried under a broken interface, small maps and poor interface design.

After all that's said and done, Medal of Honor: Warfighter is nothing more than a broken action game that falls way behind other shooters.

Bland, glitchy, linear to a fault and hopelessly redundant. You could go your whole life without playing this and not miss anything. [Jan 2013, p.72]

War games can do dumb, and I'm OK with that. But dressing dumb up in the cloak of authenticity seems a dangerous line to cross. When you pretend to be saying something about ongoing real-world wars, but present a conflict of extremes with all the substance of air, the thought that anyone might take Warfighter seriously becomes a very queasy one.

Gorgeous visuals and high production values can only carry a poor experience so far. Expect to spend a lot of time waiting, watching, and wondering why you're bothering to play at all during Medal of Honor Warfighter's disappointing, confusing campaign.
  41. Oct 26, 2012

The concept behind Warfighter is sound – particularly its attempt to personalize the internal conflict of a soldier – but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
  42. Oct 26, 2012

Warfighter is uninspired, underdeveloped, and completely profligate with the solemn potential of its core concept.
  43. Oct 25, 2012

Depressingly banal in every way, it's not impossible to be entertained by Warfighter but it is impossible to be surprised by it.

Firstly can Meta-critic implement a system where users can only post a review from the third day of release please, as there are no professional reviewers writing here who may have got the review code early to review it in depth. As anyone who would have got this early would have seen this game is a bug ridden mess, apparently a patch has been released today but why release a game BEFORE IT IS READY EA! This is the second pile of dog crap EA have churned out recently, with Fifa 13 being another bug ridden sweaty filled mess! This game though from what I could see has absolutely no identity to itself, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The bad thing is the set pieces and story are complete tosh, the typical America saves the world mantra is so tiresome yet developers have to continue their brainwashing the masses drive. Multiplayer has a lot of potential as the guns feel accurate, yet the bugs and the small bland environments is enough to warranty a three score as the game currently stands now. Full Review »

Presentation - 3.5 - A complete U turn from the first game. Nonsensical timelines and UI. Its Hopeless with zero personalty. Design 5.5 - Overall clumsy, but a few neat touches such no swappable default weapons. Gameplay - 7.5 - Generic as they come. Vehicle sections deserve merit. Graphics - 9.0 - Frostbite sure is pretty.
Audio - 8.5 - Good voice cast and sound effects but music is very underdeveloped. Lasting Appeal - 5.0 - The most generic modern war game since the mid 2000's. Multiplayer - 5.0 - Nothing to see here. Just stick with Battlefield 3 or wait for Black Ops 2. Overall - 6.0 - My main gripe with the campaign is that it is lifeless, apart from the odd set pieces here or there. But these set pieces never reach the intensity of Call of Duty games because they are not in game, they are scripted as over very quickly, usually just before the end of the level.

The singleplayer of this game is truly something of note. Warfighter, much like Medal of Honor 2010, is very much a character-driven story, touching on more than just the "Oorah" aspects of military life. As of about two hours into the campaign the game so far has been, indefinitely, the greatest campaign I've experience in a military shooter so far and displays a fair amount or range when it comes to mission variety. The gunplay is very, very weighty. Some of the most satisfying shooting I've experienced in a long while, at least as far as the more realistic shooters go, which is certainly what I would call this. Not to the point of true simulators, mind you, but it does ground itself to a much larger extent than you normally see in today's modern shooters. Anyway, I truly enjoy this game. While I was a bit hesitant when picking it up, mostly due to negative comments, I am happy with the purchase. I can't yet say whether or not the multiplayer holds up. I was pretty happy with what I saw from the beta, but that was just a small taste of what the game has to offer. With little knowledge as far as that goes, it wouldn't be fair for me to give any real comment on that element of the game. Full Review »
