Only the player's actions determine if they will rise to become the new all-powerful Overlord; it's all down to how much of a bad ass they want to be in order to succeed...evil or really evil! Played out with plenty of black humour and dark irony, the game immerses players in twisted parodies of classic fantasy scenarios and characters. Overlord's key innovation is the introduction of an array of impish creatures – the Minions. They believe you are the old Overlord reborn and will use their unique skills to fetch, fight and die for you. Throughout the game players actively control a horde of these gremlin-like critters and they follow your every instruction no matter how despotic or, for the Minions, life threatening it is. 1. The puzzle-action gameplay, battling both the enemy and the elements, is simply tuned to perfection and the oh-so-spectacular bosses play like an orchestra of action and strategy. [July 2007, p.60]
  2. Overlord is already shaping up as the sleeper-hit of 2007 – underpromoted by its publisher, barely hyped by consumers and critics, yet it delivers a unique and enjoyable experience on the Xbox 360.
  3. Any time you let minions do my dirty work you'll win me over, so the great genre-combining gameplay is just icing on the cake.
  4. Overlord might be a short lived experience but nothing quite like it exists for the Xbox 360 right now. The gameplay is sound, the humour is all too apparent and we doubt you’ll walk away unimpressed. It’s just a shame there wasn’t a little bit more going for it online.
  5. Observing the little beasts gleefully swarm, destroy, and stab every creature and object in sight is one of the most entertaining things I’ve ever seen in a video game. The problem is that Overlord only shines this brightly when you’re just watching it. When it comes to managing your minions and directing them through the puzzles, the game is just as frustrating as it is humorous.
  6. Overlord is an entertaining game that should keep you smiling for its duration, but certain control complexities and a distinct lack of evil keep it from being a truly great next-gen adventure.
  7. Though it's an also-ran to Fable, Overlord offers a lush setting with witty dialogue and great foliage.

I can't see some of the reviewers points for rating this game lower than an 80. This game, too me, is so addictive! The main storyline I can't see some of the reviewers points for rating this game lower than an 80. This game, too me, is so addictive! The main storyline for this game was creative and imaginative, something you don't find in most games. Also, some of the main points of the game pivot on your decision. A decently long game, with creative enemies and epic bosses, and the expansion pack being even more awesome, I think this game deserves a ten. Collapse

Graphically it is the best rpg action game on the 360. The controls will take time to get used to but I can't wait!!

The controls do take some getting used to, but this game is addictive! Lots of fun and the tongue-in-cheek humor is great!

I have really become dissapointed in critics. They have lost sight of what fun is. They are so full of themselves. Take IGN for example. How I have really become dissapointed in critics. They have lost sight of what fun is. They are so full of themselves. Take IGN for example. How old is the reviewer? 12? He/she sure acts like it. So your system or game had a glitch. Get it fixed and grow up. This game ROCKS! Fable meets pikmin. Innovative, new, and refreshing. I can only hope that idiotic reviewers like IGN dont ruin the chance for a sequal for this awesome game. Expand

Sometimes games leave you hanging after completing A very enjoyable game with some minor control issues that take some getting used to. Sometimes games leave you hanging after completing certain quests without any clear direction of where to go. The world is slightly non-linear in that meeting certain objectives opens multiple paths, but there's really only one correct path to take, and it might be back on the map you just left. Can lead to a good amount of confused wandering through rather boring, empty areas that lose all sense of challenge and most of their enemies once completed. An in-game map that illustrated objectives would have made this game a whole three points better. Expand
