  1. I had a lot of fun playing Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, but I was extremely disappointed with the lack of content in this game. Playing the same four levels over and over is unacceptable in a modern game and is my chief complaint of this title.
  2. A big-hearted game with some rip-off DLC. [Dec 2008, p.101]
  3. If you've got a few friends, it can actually be pretty fun. [Apr 2008, p.76]

What it all boils down to is this game lacks a lot to make it a fun dodgeball game. The camera doesn't fit and the action is bit too slow-paced for some.
  5. 60
If, however, you're after something inoffensive to entertain the youngsters without having to explain about death, the birds and the bees or any other adult themes, you could do worse.
  6. 55
Pirates vs Ninjas is an attractive looking title and offers a unique take on an old school game, but its ineffective gameplay just won't let it compete with other titles more worthy of your hard earned cash.
  7. Despite its cool cast of characters and excellent concept, Blazing Lizards had a good starting point that missed the mark.
  8. The bad camera angles, unnecessary fatigue system and limited environments really hurt the title.
  9. This game might not have caused such disappointment if the concept wasn't such an intriguing idea, but when you combine these fun elements, and the game is a) not all that fun to play and b) distinctly limited, people are going to be let down.
  10. This game is major disappointment.

By adding new rules to the game of dodgeball, Blazing Lizard has removed everything that made the schoolyard game fun and replaced it with a bunch of arena brawling game ideas we've seen done better a thousand times over.
  12. For the little enjoyment being offered and problems that are present, a 800 Microsoft point purchase just cannot be justified. There are too many negatives and scarce positives to be found.
  13. 42
Attractive settings and cute little anime-inspired characters with oversized heads and eyes may distract youngsters for awhile, but Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball is an otherwise messy affair that, like Double D, isn't nearly worth the 800 Microsoft Points it'll cost you.
  14. With a frustrating yet easy single-player mode that can be exhausted in less than an hour, it falls to multiplayer to improve the score - and it's true that playing with other people does liven things up a tad.
  15. As it stands, the “athletes” in Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball look like people lost in a vast sea.
  16. It's a nice attempt, but ultimately falls short of the entertainment we'd expect from such a title. In a market saturated with similarly designed games, this one does little to stand out.
  17. Either way I suggest steering clear of this title even if you are looking for a resurrection of some nostalgic dodgeball gaming.
  18. Pirates and ninjas clash with other fantasy archetypes in dodgeball matches handicapped by a legion of drawbacks.
  19. Ultimately, Pirates Vs. Ninja Dodgeball is a waste of time.
  20. What we’re left with is a clever idea that was not executed to any satisfying end.
  21. A virtual dodgeball tournament with pirates, ninjas, zombies and robots is just as dull as it sounds. Although the production values are high for an Live Arcade title the actual gameplay is several leagues from being fun in any way. The slow and monotonous gameplay even manages to turn the multiplayer mode into a dull experience. Spend your Microsoft points on something else.
  22. There are just four ‘arenas’ to choose from, four factions, with four characters in each, three similar modes and variable numbers of Balls present in each game. It won’t take long to exhaust the possibilities.
  23. Nothing other than nice graphics. [Dec 2008, p.103]
  24. I am at a loss for something truly positive to say. As much as I want to present something, anything, positive about a product people put time into developing, I cannot. Pirates Vs. Ninjas is just a dumb idea, badly executed.

Just awful, Microsoft spoiled us in August with outstanding Arcade games so I guess it is not a surprise that September would suck the suck rock. I do not remember hearing about this game once at E3 2008, so I should have taken that a sign this game was going to blow. I mean these GameCock morons were everywhere at E3 2007 with their Pirates vs. Ninja's crap and then closer to the game release they hide their head, with good reason.
Do not walk, but run away from this giant turd. Don't believe me? Download the demo.
