The mechanics that have made the series great in years past have made a return, while new additions like offensive off-ball control add an almost endless number of ways players can attack and score.

This year's PES title won't change anyone's mind about the series. It hasn't gotten any less complex, but it also hasn't lost any of its brilliance. In that sense, its success is all its own.

A lot of last year's elements remain but this is ultimately a move away from sim and closer to classic PES on PS2. It's something PES fans will welcome with open arms but FIFA players will have no reason to defect.

It's been a terrible year for Konami, they had to suffer through incredible hardship during the catastrophic tsunami-events and were under constant critique for the disappointing PES 2011. But instead of despairing they just gave it all all and returned with the most precise, most fluid and most ambitious PES in years. What the game lacks in terms of licenses and presentation it more than makes up for by sheer supremacy on the pitch. Forget last year's letdown, Konami is back in the race, PES 2012 will give FIFA 12 a serious run for its money.
  5. Tighter, playable and surprisingly deep, only the stilted visuals and ability to explain its intricacies prevent it from becoming the XBW favorite again. [Dec 2011, p.106]

The best arcade football game ever made. If the player is ready to accept PES 2012 as such then-despite the bugs and horrible-horribe keepers- he will enjoy Konami's offering. If sim is your cup of tea then choose the "other" game plain and simple. Konami decided to end the race against FIFA, at least in the current console generation, opted for mediocre animations and super fast gameplay, but forgot the fix the keepers and some annoying bugs. 4 for sim, 8 for arcade so 6 overall. i played it on pc and on that platform it's fully customizable so i update it monthly with new shoes balls and players. I used to play fifa as well but when i found out about pes I never really got back into fia anymore. Pes is 100% manual football... Fifa. is more pre-programmed combinations Full Review »

I can only comment on the career mode so far, but as far as I am concerned, there is no improvement from pes2011. The rating system is still broken, the gameplay has changed, but I am not sure it's for the better (when play goes down either wing, there is no chance of getting on the end of a cross, the ai uses the through ball less, and shooting feels less real than before) . The goalkeepers are pretty useless. The soundtrack to the game is terrible.Overall I am not impressed. Full Review »
