In general, the camera is what's keeping Rocketmen from being a ton of fun. But it's still a nice diversion.
It has its fair share of problems, but if you can get beyond them, you'll find underneath a rather pleasant game that can be played with everyone in the room.
If you are looking for a quick fix of top down shooter shenanigans and you happen to be moderately blind or ignorant of the other titles on offer, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil may just be worth a look.
Rocketmen mixes cel-shaded graphics with serialized space adventure to provide a twist to old-school, top-down shooting.
Rocketmen: Axis of Evil offers up some interesting concepts, but the muddled execution bogs it down.
That it feels so leaden despite its busyness, and fails to ignite despite all its gunpowder, is impossible to ignore. [May 2008, p.99]
It's a crude and unappealing game, marred by at least three design decisions (the scrolling, the time-limited weapons, the long-winded upgrade system) that immediately make the gameplay a grind rather than a blast.
