From the moment the Monday Night Football theme song kicks off, you know you're going to love the new Genkibowl VII DLC for Saint's Row: The Third. It continues the mayhem and utter amazing stupidity of the core game in a short burst of activities and new gear.

A handful of nicely insane activities. [Apr 2012, p.85]

I had a great time with the missions aside from the Super Ethical PR Opportunity jobs, but I recognize that this DLC isn't for everyone. There's no denying that the DLC is short; the eight missions go by very quickly. If you didn't like the side missions and don't care about homies, special vehicles or outfits, you might want to let this one pass you by. If you're like me, though, and simply crave more of the Steelport crazy, you could do a lot worse than GenkiBowl VII.

The cost of Genkibowl VII isn't worth the quantity of gameplay you get for your money, and the quality of the gameplay isn't good enough to justify committing to a Season Pass at this point. I had a lot of fun with Saints Row: The Third, I expected more out of Professor Genki.

It's fun, it's wacky, and it's quintessentially Saints Row - but it's also crazy-short. Each of these four new main missions unlocks a similar activity on the world map where you'll earn new crew, respect, money, and vehicles, but that's it - and eight new scenarios aren't worth $7, we say.

Genki Bowl VII's four quick activities lack the excitement and humor of your earlier adventures in Steelport.

THQ wants you to pay $7.00 for eight missions and a handful of mostly meaningless unlockables. That's just crazy.

But beyond a quick whisking into mayhem, Genkibowl is lacking more of, well everything.

Genkibowl VII is not the Saints Row: The Third add-on you've been waiting for. Instead it's a painfully bad mini-game collection, half of which is recycled from last year's disc-based release. There are some funny lines here and there, but they won't make up for the disappointing and overpriced content!

I'm all for developers extending the life of their games by offering post-release content, however in this case, the Genkibowl had the exact opposite effect. Once I finished it, I didn't want to play more Saints Row 3, much less buy more content for it.

Saints Row 3 is a tough act to follow, particularly given how much awesome over-the-top stuff is already in there. But dribbling out forgettable and pointless content like Genki Bowl is exactly the wrong way to follow it.

  1. Not horrible but this is just a bunch of side missions and side missions suck. No new vehicles, weapons or anything cool. I would recommend skipping it or only picking it up if you find it on sale. Full Review »
  2. They didn't even have the decency to make a story out of the few activities featured. Hopefully the next DLC, 'The Trouble with Clones...', won't seem as sloppily slapped together. Full Review »
  3. Honestly, I thought it was okay, playing the new Genki Bowl activities. But then it got too repetitive for my liking. It's cool that you get 4 new homies, Sexy Kitten, Angry Tiger, Sad Panda and Tammy Tolliver (Excuse me if i spelt the last name wrong for Tammy), but i tend not to use them a lot, partly because they have really irritating voices and the vehicles are pretty bad too. All you get are 3 terrible pink cars and the Genki Mobile, which, is pretty cool if you like fairly fast cars which shoot fire. Basically, the Genki Mobile is a faster, cooler looking Gat Mobile. One thing i do like though, are the masks and suit (Sad Panda Suit). I find my self wearing them quite often when i am mowing down Syndicate with my Giant Purple **** (Or The Penitrator, if your a massive Saints Row: The Third fan). Over all, it is a interesting DLC and if you have enough money, maybe get it, but only if you like Activities and Costumes. Full Review »
