With videogame versions, it’s all about the features and spit and polish. Shotest Shogi does some of those things very well, but ultimately new converts will enjoy it more. It’s a great introduction to a classic game of strategy.

Much like the conceptually similar Gin Rummy, the presentation is scrappy, the options minimal and the overall impression is of a game that will satisfy the demands of dedicated Shogi players but has little to offer anyone else.
A fascinating diversion you could spend the rest of your life pursuing, but this presentation of it is disappointingly short on frills.

Shotest Shogi is a challenging experience that relies on you having at least a passing familiarity with the tabletop game that it's based on.
Shogi is the kind of game that you can get hooked on. If you enjoy chess, playing and learning this variant will be right up your alley. However, the 800 Microsoft point ($10 US) price tag will have you wishing more effort would have been put into the presentation and game options.
