The game play appeals to the young and hopelessly naïve gamers who think they're reliving the movie experience. Good luck to them - to the rest of us, spend your X-bucks on something a little more sophisticated.

Shrek's gameplay is sub-par. [Jan 2002]
The problem here is that the levels are either two small, or laid out in ways that are counter-intuitive. There's also the problem of challenge.
Repetitive action and sloppy control in lieu of an enthralling adventure.
The fact is, just about every task the game asks you to play is simply no fun. [Jan 2002, p.230]
Shrek can burp and light his farts! Well, so can my old college roommates and I don't see you paying 50 bucks to hand out with them. [Jan 2002, p.86]

As a hardcore fan of the anime, this game was a disappointment. Let's start with the fact that Donkey, Fiona, and Lord Farquaad aren't present. Seriously? They were very important characters to the anime. The plot is very faithful either. This game is almost as much of a disgrace as SpongeBob retconning the universe right as Gary got character development. The controls are **** and the only saving grace this game has is the art style, which is very reminiscent of the anime.
Overall, **** this game. Kill it with fire, my fellow weeaboos
