  • Summary: SKATE delivers the feel of skating through innovative controls, authentic cameras and a fully reactive skateboarding city. The game features professional skaters such as Danny Way and PJ Ladd, as well as a reactive city and relevant in-game cameras. SKATE's unique control scheme captures the true feel of skating versus the typical button mashing gameplay of past skating games. Featuring physics-driven animations, gamers will have a unique gaming experience every time they pick up the controller since no two tricks will ever be the same. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. As I said before, THPS had a good run, but its time to grow up. SKATE is the game that will force us to do just that.
  2. Innovative controls, fantastic physics, seamless animation and pretty darn sweet visuals. Take a breath, retune your brain and learn how to sakte - you'll be glad you did! [Issue#25, p.84]
  3. Simply by moving the controls from the face-buttons to the analogue sticks – an idea so simple it’s amazing no-one though of it before – EA have created the best skateboarding title in years and in doing so have redefined the rules of the entire genre. A joy to play and a game which the inevitable sequel will have to go some way to top.
  4. A fun, addictive skateboarding game that's just a little camera work and a few control refinements short of stardom.
  5. While the lean career mode could use a bit more substance, this is the game to get if you’re a hardcore skateboarding fan looking for something a little different.
  6. Very much its own game, Skate is a great start to what should be a stellar series. [Dec 2007, p.62]
  7. A technically strong game tailored to hardcore skaters (and people up for a really serious challenge), this one will alienate casual gamers, as the learning curve can be excruciating.

Excellent game which provides real value for money. EA must be commended on their efforts for reviving a flagging skateboarding genre.

This game is amazing ,the people who say this is just for people who are rubbish at tony hawks are mental. tony hawks started off quite good but all the newer versions are ridiculous , i hated the unrealism personally and the fact u can pull a combo for about 5 mins is rubbish ,the tricks are so easy and mostly immposable in real life, skate is for people who have skated in their life and i love it. The only real surprise to me was that ea have actually been involved in a good game.Oh and i agree with matey about the getting off the board bit, thats the only one thing wrong with this game. I skateboard in real life and this is much closer to skateboarding than Tony Hawk. After 8 years of TH im a little tired of bs missiongs like grinding a lamp pole wire for 100 yards and doing one impossible trick after another you forget that its a skateboarding game. if you land a good trick in skate you have a sense of accomplishment rather than scoring 100,000 points in an impossible combo without breaking a sweat. Nick D. Id say the exact opposite for you, you cant handle something even close to skateboarding so stick to buttonmashing. Expand

Spot on. I can't imagine a better simlulation of skateboarding. This is probably the closest thing that non-skaters will get to feeling the thrill of grinding a rail or dropping into a half pipe. Several decades of skating behind me, I can honestly say that skaters will really appreciate this gem. Cheers, EA. I'm not a big fan, but you did something right. Expand

I love the fact that the only people here giving a positive comment on the game don't have a last name and no matter how much they skate in real life, this game is like heaven to them. Odd that. And someone actually respects the EA "guyz". Yeah, nice try Black Box. Expand
