  • Summary: SKATE delivers the feel of skating through innovative controls, authentic cameras and a fully reactive skateboarding city. The game features professional skaters such as Danny Way and PJ Ladd, as well as a reactive city and relevant in-game cameras. SKATE's unique control scheme captures the true feel of skating versus the typical button mashing gameplay of past skating games. Featuring physics-driven animations, gamers will have a unique gaming experience every time they pick up the controller since no two tricks will ever be the same. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. As I said before, THPS had a good run, but its time to grow up. SKATE is the game that will force us to do just that.

With its organic controls, beautiful visuals and amazing presentation, it quickly becomes an addicting experience that's tough to stop playing, even during some of the most frustrating parts of the game. Though its online modes slightly tarnish on the experience, the rest of the game more than makes up for it.
  3. There's an immense amount of value here, and even dozens of hours and you're sure to still be finding spots you missed or new lines you couldn't have pulled off before. Even with its flaws, Skate is an amazing first attempt at a genre which has been stagnant for years.
  4. A solid first effort and actually makes me look forward to a sequel. I really hope they can mess around with the control scheme a bit next time to allow for more versatility in your trick making so you can be more creative on the pavement.

I bought it because my friend had it from the moment i did my first ollie on it i loved the game. It's so much better than TH games because you have to have "thumb skill" as me and my friends call it. In this game you have to angle yourself to the rail and get good timing, where in TH you press A then Y to grind a rail when you can be far away from it. Also the visuals are amazing! EA really did a good job whatever they did to graphic this game. Many people also say the camera angle bothers them, but I got used to it so I have nooo idea what they're talking about. The only problem I have are some of the challenges, especially DEATH RACES, are very hard. But I got over that and completed them after some time and got a GREAT feeling of accomplishment. For the regular Xbox 360 game price of about $59.99, it is practicly a steal for its replay value, challenges, freeskate, and realism. Oh, and there is no loading if you travel between towns on board. The only loading is the startup character selection and if you take the transit map to an area. Expand

Easily the best skateboarding game you can buy out at the moment, beating the long-standing Tony Hawk franchise hands down. A somewhat realistic look into the world of skateboarding and the ability to skate around a living, breathing metropolis lets your skateboarding imagination run wild. You can get annoyed at some control/tricks as the controls are specfic and some skateboarding styles have been left out from the game (Flatland, anyone?) and some bugs need ironing out, but a lot better than what the Tony Hawk games have been. Comes with Online capabilities and the ability to add your own short Skate videos and pictures to the internet. Worth looking into. Expand

I love the fact that the only people here giving a positive comment on the game don't have a last name and no matter how much they skate in real life, this game is like heaven to them. Odd that. And someone actually respects the EA "guyz". Yeah, nice try Black Box. Expand
