  1. The humor, characters and, most obviously, the difficulty of Surf's Up are geared towards a younger audience, but the game is also fun enough for anyone to play, although the simplicity might keep it from having a very long shelf life in most collections.
  2. Seen through adult eyes, it's a sweet but slender surfing game that's consistently amusing.
  3. This is the first licensed game I’ve played that is actually shorter than its movie. I’m not exaggerating; in a little over an hour I had received trophies in all of the main surf events.

The gameplay is simple but enjoyable and kids in love with the movie are sure to have a good time with the game, but the fact remains that this is a bloated price tag on a barebones game.
  5. Hanging 10 in this movie-licensed surfing game has its moments--just don't expect to enjoy it for very long.
  6. If you’re a kid and a big fan of the Tony Hawk series of skateboarding titles or similar games, Surf’s Up may be a cool addition to your collection as it is a decent pick up and play title for the ankle-biters but it really doesn’t present much of a challenge to anyone who has experienced puberty.
  7. The tricks lack complexity and the game can be beaten in a couple of sittings. However, young ones should enjoy the fun presentation and the enjoyable multiplayer mode.
  8. The game appeals to kids, thanks to its colorful characters, but adults will find it too easy. The tricks lack complexity and the game can be beaten in a couple of sittings.

It's a wise parent that rents, as those tiny gamers will make short work of this fun but brief experience. [Aug 2007, p.81]
  10. If the game were quite a bit longer or featured more variety, we’d feel fine recommending it to all the kiddies out there, but as it is now we can’t help thinking that even a 6 year old would feel gypped.

Consider this reviewer's naïve attitude and eternally hopeful gullibility well and truly slaughtered and replaced by a seething and consuming hatred of anything that gets unceremoniously squeezed out of Hollywood's all-profit-no-quality bunghole.
  12. Let there be no doubt, Surf's Up is strictly for kids in love with the movie. The redundancy of the gameplay will certainly help to break one's obsession with all things penguin in a weekend. Definitely a rental.

Certainly not a game for anyone expecting a challenge or long-term entertainment. [Oct 2007, p.86]

I have to admit that I am not the target audience. I must be 20 years too old! This was purely a purchase for the EASY 1000 gamerpoints onI have to admit that I am not the target audience. I must be 20 years too old! This was purely a purchase for the EASY 1000 gamerpoints on offer.
For this though it was not all that terrible. Its an arcade style game kind of like doing the half pipe in a Tony Hawks game. You sweep up a wave, perform a stunt get some points and boost and continue. It is mixed up by having to get collectibles through some of the maps but this is easy as whatever you have picked up on previous run throughs is not present on retry attempts so its very easy to get. I would be unsure if kids would really get that much out of the game. It is very one dimensional and I personally do not thing that this would give more than a few hours before kids got bored.
Graphically its not all that great and the AI is terrible (Again possibly as its a kids game)
This would be a purchase for me only if cheap and if you are looking to boost you gamer score.

Awful, just awful. No freedom at all, which is a pity for a surf game. The rendition of water is plain terrible, and the controls are too simplistic.

Some of the best water graphics I've ever seen!
