  1. One of the best XBLA hack-and-slash classics ever to grace Xbox Live Arcade.
  2. Digital distribution brings us a remarkable clean-up of a true arcade classic, starred by the mighty Ninja Turtles.
  3. Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled will mostly appeal to nostalgic fans, others may be less enthusiastic.

Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is a great example of how much games have evolved. Even though we may have thought we wanted this classic "remake" this release shows that it is no longer enough to slap on a coat of paint to outdated gameplay.
  5. The bottom line is that the game doesn't hold up very well, but it's mildly amusing to play for an hour or so, especially with friends.
  6. With only the core game mode and two mild variations based on the same levels there's just not enough game here to warrant a purchase.
  7. It may have been fun back in the 1990s but now there’s just not enough depth to gain any sort of prolonged enjoyment out of it. Short bursts in multiplayer can be mildly enjoyable, but for 800 points it’s simply not worth it. It’s crazy to think they were originally going to charge 1200 for what is a bare-bone remake.

On my second playthrough using another turtle, I realized that the turtles have their own unique special attacks, which changes things up a bit. That allows for 4 unique playthroughs using all of the turtles. Then I considered the Quick Play and Survival modes, not to mention 4 person co-op and the game suddenly seemed like a much better value to me. I Expand

The second I started playing this is brought back memories of me and my friends meeting up weekends and after to school to drop quarters and play the day away. This is a pretty faithful remake, and the graphical upgrade adds a nice flair. I wish I still knew some of those people from the arcades, this would be a great way for us to have a reunion. There isn't enough newness to it, and in many ways it's worse than the original. There's no solid replay value. The graphics, music, voice acting, and controls are much more bland, and while the action is more frantic it's hard to see what's going on most of the time, and your attacks rarely feel like they "connect". It would have also been nice to be able to jump in to in-progress games. With all that said, it's still very fun with four players online or off, and it's very easy to pickup and play. Expand

The most obvious problem is the fact that this is not the same game from the old days. Yes, its a 3D remake of one of the best side-scrolling beat-em-ups ever made but it doesn't hold a candle to the classic Turtles in Time from the SNES days. The 3D leaves alot to be desired and the game just doesn't feel right. I really wish they had just re-released the original game and been done with it as the remake is not a good way to show the kids of today what a wonderful game the original was.
This game does still have a bit of the charm from the original and they were at least able to give each individual turtle a different ability to let them stand out. I'm glad this game was made as it gives us at least some kind of ability to play this on the 360. But the original is what we wanted and we were not given that. A disappointment to be sure but not without some merit.

Unfortunately, the gameplay is much to bland I went in to this game with no nostalgia, so people with fond memories might feel differently. Unfortunately, the gameplay is much to bland for me to recommend. You go forward and press X. 1 hour later, you win. Co-op sounds like it would be fun, but somehow ends up being worse than single-player. The screen becomes a hideous jumbled mess from which no enjoyment is found. The game is a piss-poor value, too, with little re-playability to be had. Skip this, and go buy 'Splosion Man instead. Expand

They completely changed the fighting system and as such removed all the strategy and thought that was required in the original. The graphics were good but the new soundtrack is awful, they should have kept the original songs and re-done them with new instruments because it was one of the best videogame soundtracks ever IMO. What a waste of time and money. Expand
