60Tempest is functional, and for five bucks you really shouldn't expect much more.
-
50This is a true classic - it just isn't a lot of fun to play.
-
Just don't play that bloody enhanced version, you'll never forgive yourself. [Issue#29, p.118]

45Sloppy emulation and a sloppier enhanced mode make this version of Tempest a package to avoid.
-
Only hardcore retro addicts should drop the five bucks. [Nov 2007, p.94]

40As you move your craft around the playfield with either the analogue controller or the d-pad, precision of movement goes out of the window with your craft over-shooting the mark, often resulting in a loss of one of your limited lives.

Last year, Space Giraffe came out. It was a 2007 version of tempest with some improvements and surprisingly enough the original just doesn't compare.
-
The "Giraffe" has already trod this ground before. [Mar 2008, p.94]

30By trying to craft an updated experience for a new generation of gamers, Tempest ends up losing a lot of the luster that originally made it such a hit. Toss in some wonky and unresponsive controls, as well as an additional high-speed mode that only the most hardcore of gamers would be willing to even try and attempt to play, and you end up with an experience that just doesn't warrant even the budget price of 400 Microsoft Points (or about $5).
