  • Summary: Thor: The Video Game will take players through a spectacular, epic-scale original third-person adventure for which Matt Fraction, the Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author served as story consultant. In the game, Thor battles through the numerous worlds of Norse mythology that span realms ranging from primal worlds of fire and ice to extraordinary planets inhabited by Frost Giants and Trolls to save Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods. Thor must overcome monstrous foes lifted from the pages of the comics including Ulik, Ymir, and Surtur, as well as other monstrous denizens. Players will wield the iconic Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, to fight enemies on an immense scale while controlling the elemental storm powers of lightning, thunder, and wind to vanquish enemies. As Thor earns Valor points through his exploits, players can acquire new abilities, powers, and weapon upgrades. Collapse

    Combat is satisfying and engaging.

Thor: God of Thunder is an ugly game. The gameplay mechanics do not work properly and a poor visual style subtends the entire walktrough. "Boring" is the only word to describe this tie-in.

With a great story and production values, that might've been enough, But everything about the game is less-than-heroic, including Thor himself. [Aug 2011, p.77]

Destined to prematurely hit the bargain bucket of game stores worldwide, Thor fails miserably in its bid to reignite the action and excitement that this summers blockbuster superhero smash brought to the big screens in waves. Predictably as a videogame movie adaptation, Thor fails epically. Interestingly enough though, as a cure for long-term insomnia, it can't be highly enough recommended.

If I haven't made my point excruciatingly clear by now, let me be very blunt -- do not play this game. It's plodding and dull, and isn't even fun in an unintentional way. Just stay away.

Thor: God of Thunder is what one would come to expect with other movie-licensed games. The cinematics are sub-par, the combo system is quite repetitive, and the difficulty is skewed. The only redeeming qualities I found were using the leveling system to actually refill your health and Odin Force, and the effects of the elemental attacks looked cool, but the fun factor is just not there.

The game is a slap in the face, to people who like video games, to people who like comic books, to people who like Germanic paganism.

I don't know what's up with critics, but it's not a bad game at all. Surprisingly fun and good for fans of hack and slash gameplay. It'll make for a very entertaining weekend if you ask me. Expand

I do not understand. There is a useless rage against this game. It is not extraordinary, but does his duty admirably. In my opinion is a bit 'boring, but it's still fun. My vote is very high severity delegated to balance other reviews Expand

Decent game with fun combat not up there with the likes of arkham city as far a super hero games go but as a movie tie in and a action brawler it can hold its head up high, if you like the character and mythology and action games in general you will enjoy this. Don't be put off by some of the negative reviews they are misguided and from some jaded gamers. Only major complaint would be that they never really took advantage of Thor's flight ability the game for the most part remains firmly planted on the ground. Expand

The game successfully does what it offers. It alows you to be Thor and allows you to do nearly anything he has ever done in the movies or in the cartoons. Gameplay is like God Of War but the game is generally weak but still fun if you find it at low price and if you like Thor, just get it. Expand

Nothing new here, except the story which if you are a fan of the mythos, you will love. Gameplay as expected is similar to God of war/Darksiders/Devil may cry. Voice acting was very good and seems to have gotten most of the voice talent to reprise roles here. Overall an okay game, nothing bad to say, but nothing great either. Expand

Wow - Sega managed to crap out another movie game. I don't know why Marvel is slumming it with these guys. Could it be the money? The gameplay is too simplistic with terrible controls and clunky mechanics. The graphics look like they were made for the Atari 2600. Expand
