81The combination of a cute story with straight-forward, extremely rewarding gameplay makes up for the low production values of certain game elements. And, with lots of hidden goodies to find in each stage and drop-in/out local two-player, Tornado Outbreak is ultimately worth the investment.
-
77Tornado Outbreak is a fun, unique romp that will intrigue just about any gamer. The quirky story remains entertaining enough to keep you occupied, while the simplistic gameplay will keep you interested throughout its duration. The short campaign is probably my biggest concern, but with the ability to go back through older levels with your new powers is a definite bonus.
-
As a game experience, it is an interesting product which distinguishes itself from other better-selling videogames, but its main shortcoming is its short durability.
-
A nice twist on the Katamari template, but it soon gets repetitive. [Winter 2009, p.86]
-
Each level follows the exact same progression path, and this dull repetition ultimately makes what could have been a great tornado game nothing more than a funnel cloud.
-
68The game is in fact at its best in the opening tutorial levels where your only purpose is to gather and grow and wreak splendid havoc on the scenery, before any of the fire sprite collection, bonus objectives or special moves are added to the mix, bogging down the gameplay.
-
68Instead of making an entire retail version of this game, it would have perhaps been better to bring out the game as an arcade title. However Tornado Outbreak did surprise us, and therefore it deserves a nice mark.
-
65It's cute enough, but this Katamari clone won't blow you away.
-
Uninteresting story and visuals. [Dec 2009, p.69]
-
Undeniably a good concept spoiled. [Issue#53, p.95]
-
The most boring natural disaster you'll ever see. [Apr 2010, p.107]
-
Tornadoes suck, blow, annoy and upset. Tornado Outbreak nails all of that. [Jan 2010, p.74]
