Delivering more control, players can select from a diverse range of playable TRANSFORMERS - each with distinct personalities, abilities and weaponry - and jump straight into action as they instantly switch between robot, vehicle and weapon modes to fight for the preservation or annihilation of all mankind. For the first time in the TRANSFORMERS universe, players can also fight the epic war between the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS online in explosive, multiplayer combat. Players can take on the role of their favorite AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS such as Optimus Prime, Starscream, Bumblebee and Ironhide, along with new characters making their first appearance in a game. With two distinct campaigns that allow players to save or destroy the human race, players can unlock and play missions in any order and with different characters for a whole new experience. Instantaneously convert from a colossal robot to a dynamic land or air vehicle such as a diesel truck, sports car, military chopper or fighter jet. New, ultra-fluid transformations can be performed in-motion anytime and anywhere, allowing players to strategically propel through and decimate hordes of enemies with incredible agility. 1. Like the movie it’s based on, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen isn’t trying to radically change the genre or introduce innovative new features. It’s giving you great-looking robots that go off and fight other great-looking robots as you watch the resulting explosions.
  2. All together, this is a much better Transformers game than the previous movie tie-in, and probably the best Transformers title I've played on a console to date.

Forget its troubled lineage -- Revenge of the Fallen is a huge improvement over the first movie tie-in. While the average gamer will be modestly entertained, Transformers fans will probably love it.

Comes up short in a number of categories, due in large part to its repetition, odd control layout, poor AI and almost total lack of presentation. Running around and just shooting stuff has its merits, though it does get old after a bit.
  5. It all amounts to a game that'll keep you busy for a few hours, but only because you want to unlock bonus content or score achievement points/trophies. If you're into disposable content and transforming robots, Revenge is a decent rental.
  6. With the game based upon the movie bearing the same name we're hard pressed to actually connect the dots in the plot, the reason for this being that the plot is laid out so poorly it's virtually impossible to grasp. Instead of great narration the storytelling is based upon you being sent from area to area to destroy robots, which is actually surprisingly fun. Even though this is by no means a great game it will appeal to the younger audience looking for an action title with big robots in it.
  7. How ironic that Revenge Of The Fallen should be weighed down with options to keep you coming back, yet offer pitifully few reasons to play it in the first place. [Sept 2009, p.120]

This is a vast improvement over the first in gameplay and look. It's not going to take you long to finish but playing thru unlocking the bonus features like the classic cartoons from the 80's and picture stills etc make it worth while. If you find this game on the cheap, snap it up. Expand

About 6 hours worst case should have both campaigns complete for you, so there's not a whole lot packed into this for single player. The campaign missions get pretty repetitive as well - there's a reason for the name of the "Grind On" achievement. Hardcore fans of Transformers should give the game a rent, there's probably enough in there to justify the cost of a rental. But to outright buy the game for anything more than $19.99 would be criminal. It's not the worst movie tie-in game ever, but there's not a whole lot in here, it's not challenging, and will probably bore a lot of people. Expand

I like the idea of playing as an autobot or decepticon, but there was not even a story to begin with. Instead you just get a loading screen with some dialogue and some banter in missions. Also, the combat isn't stellar, but the transforming can be cool, if not finicky at times with the controls. I really wanted to like this game, but it ends falling up short as a whole. Expand
