The new incarnation of Warlords isn't great, but it isn't bad, either, under certain conditions.

Warlords is feel-good nostalgic fun, especially played against other humans - though it's missing one key ingredient: those spinner paddle controllers that let you block with fast, pinpoint accuracy in the game's original Atari 2600 version. That rush is something an analog stick just can't replicate.

For those not keeping track, this is the third version of Warlords on Xbox Live Arcade. This updated version fixes all of the bugs found in the 2012 remake, and also adds online play, more real-time strategy elements and faster gameplay. Sadly, that isn't enough of a reason to warrant a third version of Warlords.

The game won’t wow you with its innovation and the chaotic gameplay may annoy some players, but the title is well worth the time and money it takes to get the most out the title.

Warlords ends up being a bit of a mixed bag, as Atari tried to stuff the pot with too many recipes rather than simply dealing with what works (like its previous Xbox Live version of the game). However, if you're seeking a multiplayer romp or want to let off some steam with an alternative take on real-time strategy, this is worth going to battle with.

Though the framerate can bog down the experience, Warlords offers a fun game to battle with friends and enemies alike. The controls are well designed and the shredding metal soundtrack sits well with the chaotic essence of the game.
