It has the top down shooter feel of Smash TV but on a much larger and free roaming scale, the Super Attack is reminiscent of Streets of Rage, and it also may remind you of other games like Commando or even Contra. For me, these only endear the game to me, as it's taken parts of my favourite games when I was younger and turned them into something modern. It isn't as polished as some Xbox One indie titles, but for a debut, it's playable and mostly enjoyable, if not ridiculously hard to play alone.
There was a decent amount of enemies, nothing in the vein of Smash TV, with its ridiculous amount of enemies on screen in a bullet hell scenario, but it does a respectable job of what it’s got.
A great callback to the 90s quarter munching arcade games that required a good mixture of strategy, memory, luck and caffeine. Not a game for people that expect a leisurely stroll to the market. You will die, a lot, but that's kind of the point. It's kind of like that scene in Kill Bill vol. 2 where the Bride is being trained by Pai Mei and she has to punch a hole in a 4" thick board. It's not going to be easy, but you will succeed in time. Grind it out soldier!
I had a fun time with this game, it was simple and had a fun unique 80's throwback theme. It felt like an updated version of smash tv. The FX and art help it stand out among a sea of other isometric games. The ratings meter was a good challenge to try to keep maxed out and the achievements were really fun to complete. Hopefully they make more like this.
If you’re a hardcore fan of the genre and just simply need to add another twin stick notch in your action belt, by all means go for it, just know your mileage may vary. I’d rather watch the news than play Action News Heroes and that says enough. For maximum enjoyment, at least brings friends; co-op makes every game better right? This has been Justin reporting live about Action News Heroes gameplay, goodnight.
Action News Heroes is a mediocre shooter that is brought down even further by its annoying music, frustrating rating system, and lack of replayability.
Totally worth the ten bucks. Good old fashioned shooter with a neat progression of levels and some cool bosses. Wish it had online multiplayer but the local co-op is solid.
Pretty fun little classic arcade style top down shooter. Its a little short but its only $10. Even more fun with a friend. Wide variety of weapons and special attacks. Bosses are big giant dudes, basically bullet sponges.
SummaryObliterate your enemies with violent soul crushing attacks, earn truck loads of cash, unlock an arsenal of weapons, eat your weight in fast food, and if you die trying, activate your finest clone and try again. [Xbox.com]
