60BloodRayne can be forgiven on a lot of levels because it's so silly it's fun, but for everything it does which is endearing, there's something to frustrate, bore or alienate the player.
-
85A fun diversion for those looking for one. The graphics and gameplay, especially the cool powers and abilities sported by Rayne make it an above average action title.
-
84Like "Max Payne," BR is fun while it lasts and it has enough style to make it worth revisiting.
-
84The unique ways to dispose of your enemies, along with the various abilities Rayne has, keeps you pushing forward, though each stage does seem to have its own area that you'll want to skip over.
-
81Controlling Rayne is dead on with the Xbox controller...The game falls short because it doesn't have anything to offer players going through the game once more.
-
78There is an enjoyable experience to be found underneath all of the body limbs and pools of blood...It delivered a fun little ride while it lasted.
-
78A sexy goth vampire chick shooting and slicing skeleton spiders and Nazis in the 1930s? You gotta love that! [Dec 2002, p.144]
-
78Some great visuals and the ability to pull off attacks straight out of "The Matrix" make this game a lot of fun at times, but uneven pacing and an overall lack of challenge prevent it from scoring higher.
-
75Keep the kiddies away from this game, unless you want them to grow up to be Marilyn Manson.
-
73Despite some nice features, the overly repetitive gameplay will probably wear thin after a bit.
-
72Fairly long, but it's also fairly repetitive.
-
60I came away with a very been there, done that feeling after completion, and there are several titles which execute this general style more effectively.
-
50Half-baked doesnt even begin to describe this fodder which is a shame because even with its clichéd eccentricity it could have won as an example of style over substance. It doesnt.
-
90Theres a lot to admire about BloodRayne, and, although the initial missions bite, overall the game hardly sucks.
-
80Confused by the sometimes clunky camera angles? You can deliver your skull-smashing, thong-flashing high kicks in soothing slow motion.
-
80I welled up every time she said "f--ker" or went into her slow-motion death dance after killing a particularly high-ranking official. [Nov 2002, p.77]
-
60Nothing here will leave a strong impression one way or the other, and perhaps that in and of itself is a negative.
-
91Agent Bloodrayne's acrobatic dexterity and quick response time would make Trinity jealous. [1 Nov 2002, p.77]

Despite its cleverly conceived features and options, the actual execution is missing something. [Dec 2002, p.98]

Rayne has been designed by sexiness experts and dropped into a game that features all the erotic appeal of Rosie O'Donnell scarfing down Canadian ham at an all-you-can-eat buffet. [Winter 2002, p.108]
