The character models are run of the mill and the voice acting boarders on passable but what really hurts the game are the cut scenes. The story unfolds with a series of animated stills that failed to drawl me into the story or create any sense of tension.
  2. While Cold War features some pretty impressive graphics and a decent story, the predictable enemies you'll face and the limited number of environments you'll visit prevent the game from being particularly exciting.

Merely mediocre action. [Dec 2005, p.161]
  4. Unfortunately, as imaginative as the X-ray camera and creative gadgets are, they simply cannot make up for Cold War's countless missteps
  5. The gadget creation system in Cold War is by far it's best feature, with the X-ray camera coming a close second, but the game can be frustrating at times, repetitve at others, and there's just not enough tension to drive the story all the way through.
  6. The title could make for a thrilling spy game, but instead of Splinter Cell-style action, we get sub-par stealth, poor controls and dull plot.
  7. If video games were running shoes, Cold War would be the designer lookalike sold on the streets of Chinatown for nest to nothing.
  8. There are a lot of better stealth-action games out there, but die-hard stealth-action fans should give Cold War a try.
  9. The stealth aspects of the game are clumsy and unimpressive, the action scenes are equally as un-fun, and it is all rolled up in a rather lackluster package.
  10. A competent if unspectacular stealth game.
  11. It's really too bad Cold War falls short in the actually gameplay because everything else in concept is rocking.
  12. It's fair to say there's spectacularly little that's actually new in the game, but for a different slant on the snooping genre and some well-executed shadow-hopping, you can't go far wrong. [Official UK Xbox Magazine]
  13. The ability to create you own items and use your head to determine how to handle each situation is a nice feature. However, sometimes it's just easier to open fire and complete the level a lot faster and a lot easier.
  14. Cold War can't help but reek of mediocrity. For its low price, it might provide a bit of fun for a few hours, but in the end, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was playing a dumbed-down version of "Splinter Cell."
  15. An enjoyable game, but it offers few new features. It doesn't quite live up to the standard set by games such as Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. There are no major problems with the game, but no major breakthroughs either.
  16. There is a lot to like with Cold War but for every great feature you spot you'll come across another one that just doesn't work. It's a shame, as at times the title shows great promise.
  17. I was looking forward to seeing the stealth genre taken in a new direction with Cold War. Sadly it didn't quite meet the expectations I had for it.

Bien moche et bien naze, encore un très mauvais clone de Splinter Cell qui a fait bien des émules mais décidément très peu d'élus. An enjoyable take on the stealth action genre. Obviously not at the same level as Splinter Cell but a valuable addition none the less.
