Slaughtering things with feral powers is always enjoyable, and the expanded multiplayer options help to keep this game entertaining long after you blaze through the new single-player content.
  2. Evolution packages this new campaign along with an improved multiplayer suite. It's basically more like an expansion than a full campaign, as it's about half the length of the original campaign.

Still, the big missions get a bit too big by the end, especially when you keep thinking you're going to fight the last guy, only to be forced to endure one tedius jumping puzzle after the next. [Jun 2006, p.83]

A bit of a disappointment compared to the original Far Cry Instincts. There should have been more of everything – more weapons, more abilities, more gameplay. [Apr 2006]

A very competent expansion, albeit one that's way too brief. Story mode can be finished in around six hours. It's also one of those add-ons where you rarely feel the developer has stretched itself creatively. [Apr 2006, p.67]
  6. If you have Instincts for the Xbox and wouldn't mind playing an original Xbox game, save yourself $30 and get Evolution. Both games are great and are worth at least a rental. If you've yet to experience Far Cry, though, it's worth a purchase.
  7. As with its namesake, Evolution doesn't hold many surprises, being a by-the-numbers retread through environments and situations that will now be more than a little familiar to veterans of the series.
  8. A worthy successor in the Far Cry franchise, the small single player game reflects is budget price, but the awesome multiplayer makes it more than worth the price tag.
  9. A real sequel would have been spectacular, but, for $30, this isn't too shabby.
  10. Really, your enjoyment of Evolution will hinge on whether you enjoyed the original game. If so, then this expansion represents another 6 or so hours of shooting fun.

Evolution isn't much of an evolution from "Instincts." That being said Evolution is still a top notch title.

Jack Carver is back and slaughtering things in the jungle yet again Far Cry Evolution. It wasn't long ago when Far Cry Instincts first Jack Carver is back and slaughtering things in the jungle yet again Far Cry Evolution. It wasn't long ago when Far Cry Instincts first appeared on the x-box and blew us all away with amazing graphics, gameplay, and great online play as well. Evolution is basically an upgrade if you will to the multiplayer. Their is a single player campaign which continues Jack's story but all the gameplay aspects of the first one are completely the same which isn't a terrible thing but there really isn't much of anything substantial that is added on to Evolution. The environments are mostly the same and the weapons are exactly the same as well as the cool powers. Jack Carver is still as cool and kick ass as usual and Evolution's story is decent enough and keeps you interested through the six hour campaign. The campaign is good but it has many problems first of which it is too short, also the stealth elements are gone completely, enemies spawn out of thin air, vehicle physics still suck. The games idea of challenging you is randomly throwing a crapload of enemies at you at any given time and you must kill them all to advance. Never the less the campaign is still solid but the mulitplayer is were the real goodness lies. Great choice of game modes and designing multiplayer levels in the map editor is great. To sum it all up Evolution is worth buying if your going to be playing online if not you should only rent. Full Review »
