  1. The sporadic and rote boss battles don't ooze as much personality - sitting back and shooting rocks at eyes on stalks as they open isn't exactly epic - and none of the grunt henchman, from reptiles to rhinoceros beetles, provide any combat challenge against Scrat's surprisingly powerful kicks and frantic tail-smacks.

The game delivers a fairly conventional adventure packed full of collect-a-thons and tried-and-true, been-here-and-done-that challenges. But it does them well. Control is tight, levels varied, and there are some genuinely funny moments.
  3. A kid-friendly platformer with more heart than your average film-to-game marketing tie-in, Ice Age 2 can be quite fun--for as long as it lasts.
  4. Straightforward and simple even for a title of this nature, Ice Age 2 purchased a copy of Platforming for Dummies, and stuck to it perfectly.
  5. Unfortunately the thought just hasn't gone into the gameplay itself and although I have to concede that children and fans of the film may enjoy it, there isn't enough here to keep this title from going extinct in a short period of time.
  6. Instead, try teaching them to spell 'soulless merchandising opportunity' because this isn't a worthy companion piece at all.
  7. It stars popular characters, makes good use of music and sound effects, and has a lot of gameplay variety. Add those things together with some nice looking graphics, and you've got a solid title.
  8. Scrat is one of the most endearing characters in animated films and it's high time he got to showcase his talents in his own adventure.
  9. The amount of minigames that you can play and the unrestrictive levels really put it above other tiles in the same genre.
  10. Hardcores will probably turn their collective noses at the collecting element but the platform elements are challenging and fun. There's no way you won't get a laugh out of this game.
  11. A well-polished movie tie-in that will keep undemanding kids amused for a weekend or two. [April 2006, p.88]
  12. So even if The Meltdown doesn't aim high on the innovation scale, it accomplishes just enough, well ebough, for a few hours spent on the couch with tweenie Ice Age fans at the next family gathering. [May 2006, p.74]
  13. The game scores better than expected because it carries over the personality of its material, and also mixes in a little variety during the game to keep things a bit lively.

More enjoyable the younger you are and the more enamored you are with the cast, Ice Age 2 will nonetheless provide any gamer with a few hours of enjoyment, along with a couple of laughs along the way.
  15. Serviceable entertainment for kids, but you'll have more fun watching the DVD.
  16. But it's also rather short, and with only the license setting it apart from every other generic platformer on the market, there's no reason to buy when a simple rental will suffice.
