Graphics, control, and sound all perform excellently without hiccups of any kind.

Brilliantly designed, the waves and riders are appropriately the highlights, as the animations are smooth for both, and every wave's approach is unique enough to keep you entertained for as long as the increasingly sprawling levels of the Tony Hawk games.

89A well-designed surf game, the best there is. What I particularly like about it is Treyarch's intelligent focus on the sport of surfing, instead of the tacky arcade tricks like adding ducks, turtles and other silly objectives.

88The Duke Kahanamoku of surfing video games. Yes, that's good.

86With smooth controls, stellar graphics, a killer soundtrack and enough extreme challenges to make Tony Hawk jealous, this is a title sport gamers will love.

The career mode has a lot of depth, and pulling off all of the tricks in the spectacular looking waves is an absolute joy.

Has a lot to unlock; it's visually appealing; and the music, voiceovers, and FMV all add to the atmosphere. I can dig it. [Oct 2002, p.91]

84KSPS is different, its fresh, its fun! Sure, it has its similarities to the Tony Hawk series, but it IS NOT some simple rehash with a surf board. The game makes you feel like a surfer, even though most of us are sitting on our asses only wishing wed know what that life would be like.

83While it may not capture the "feel" of surfing quite as well as its closest competitor, it makes up for it with better wave models and the incredible number of actions to perform on each wave.

An excellent first installment that offers gaming's best surfing experience. [4 Oct 2002, p.158]

The mini documentaries on each beach at the start of every run and the cool jazzy music suit perfectly. This would seem to make Kelly Slaters Pro Surfer the perfect game for hard-core surfing fans.

The replays are totally interactive, the camera can be set just about anywhere, and the control is so easily grasped, you'll be busting out moves that would take you a lifetime to learn. [Oct 2002, p.85]

It's the curse of making a reasonable, realistic surfing game - it just doesn't offer a very compelling videogame experience. [Fall 2002, p.120]
