Choose from the latest performance enhanced cars and bikes and compete head-to-head to make a name for yourself. There are no rules--drive anywhere in the city and just find the fastest route to win. 1. Offers the best in arcade street racing with a large selection of cars, lively cast of characters, wonderful locations, challenging course designs, single, multiplayer, and online racing, and endless creative possibilities with the Race Editor.
  2. The game goes for an arcade feel and pulls it off wonderfully. The controls are actually pretty tight and the action is smooth as ice throughout the single player modes as well as the multiplayer action.

Has more technique than almost any other racing game before it. [Aug 2003, p.33]

Visually, the game doesn’t disappoint—lots of shiny cars, detailed environments, and lighting effects that prove crucial during these after-hours races.
  5. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I’d enjoy the offline career mode more than playing the game online. I’m not saying that MC II doesn’t provide quality online gaming, but the lack of game modes tends to bog the whole online experience down and it never quite gets out of first gear.
  6. If you just like insanely fast arcade racing, go ahead and pick it up. It's a gas. [Aug 2003, p.73]
  7. 68
It may be fast and furious but it’s not the best.

This is a game that is VERY fun for the first 5-6 hours, then becomes A)Controller-smashing frustrating B) Ridiculously difficult C)Increasingly repetitive and boring. The cars are fun, but there isn't enough variety, and it would be nice to be able to trick them out. The levels are great, I just wish the AI were more consistent. Thank goodness for cheat codes? I may not have understood what type of game we were dealing with here.... it's definitely has more of an arcade feel to it, as opposed to the other Rockstar titles, which look and feel more a bit more realistic. I'm sure it's all for the fun factor... Graphics could have been much better (Why couldn't we pull off some of the effects seen in other, *older* xbox title like Wreckless: Yazuka Missions?!!) ... anyway, it's still fun, rent it first.
