  1. A pretty addictive title and has earned some great marks for sound and gameplay. This title's best features include the career mode which sucked hours on end from my life.

Where Left Field shine, and do they ever shine, is in course design, AI and control. MTX is a gas to see and play. [Mar 2004, p.66]
  3. The most interesting element of this robust racer is the trick system which uses a blend of well-timed button mashing and joystick movements to give you access to seemingly endless array of cool air tricks.
  4. Cheat Code Central

The fact you need to adjust where you're sitting on the bike during a race adds to creating a real MX racing experience. Anyone who enjoys MX games will enjoy this one.
  5. A quality racing experience with blazing visuals, realistic physics, and an excellent trick system.
  6. Guys and gals that got off on "T.H.U.G." will also find a lot of gameplay value here since they will be able to dig deep into the lengthy Career Mode. Gamers jonesing for the return of the motocross track editor, a la "Excitebike," will want to check it out as well.
  7. It's got solid and easy-to-learn gameplay, a very good career mode, and online gameplay which to me always adds points to my score.
  8. 87
One of the more fun extreme sports type games I have played in recent memory. The gameplay is easy to pick up on, but not easy to master.
  9. 87
One of the best places for the experience of racing in the dirt and having it online makes it even better. The racing tracks are fun to ride and with online stats there's a compelling reason to keep shaving seconds off your time.
  10. Despite the unpolished graphics and the less than perfect Live interface, MTX Mototrax is still a great experience, on or offline.
  11. 85
A very sleek motocross racing game that combines awesome tricks system and great physics.
  12. The replay value of this game is incredible.
  13. Computer Games Magazine

From its training mode (which teaches players all the ins and outs of racing a bike) to its responsiveness and intuitive nature, the gameplay is incredibly fluid. [May 2004, p.12]

May not be as challenging as "MX Unleashed," but it's definitely more polished. [May 2004, p.76]
  15. The game runs beautifully at about sixty frames per second with no slow down. Lots of the environments are nicely detailed and well lit.
  16. The career mode and the concepts behind the single player game are definitely innovative, and are a solid addition to the racing genre. However, a somewhat tenuous connection between modes, a lackluster inclusion of a trick system and a limited number of tracks keeps Mototrax stuck at the gate for all but the most enthusiastic Motocross fans.
  17. If I could suggest something to the game developer, it would be to work on the physics more. With a game that is based on something that relies heavily on physics, don't take shortcuts. The end result will no matter how impressive, always be unrealistic.
  18. 80
Getting the timing down on when to load up the front suspension for extra liftoff on jumps takes a few races, but it quickly becomes second nature. Unfortunately, the game isn't very realistic when it comes to rider collisions.
  19. 80
Great control and tracks would be for naught if the graphics engine couldn't keep up, but not to worry. MTX runs at a silky smooth framerate that grabs your collar and shakes hard.
  20. MTX brings all of the excitement of the motocross circuit home in an arcade/simulation racing title that comes bundled with an absolute abundance of features and options, not the least of which is online game play.
  21. GMR Magazine
    80
The physics, camera, and controls are great: Everything feels perfect, and there's an awesome sense of speed (helped out by the rock-solid 60 fps). [June 2004, p.81]
  22. The depth of the career- and online play make MTX Mototrax a superior choice. The game has virtually no glitches or flawed design.
  23. The best motocross racer you can buy right now.
  24. Doesn't quite reach the level of Left Field's N64 masterpiece "Excitebike 64," but it does bring a good game of dirt racing with smooth graphics to the table. If it had tighter controls, more bike sounds for different bikes and a little more originality in its levels I think this game would be superb.
  25. It just doesn't have enough variety to satisfy the offline gamer.
  26. Thankfully the game does feature an excellent soundtrack with songs coming from artists such as Slipknot, A.F.I, The Distillers, Faith No More, Metallica, The Misfits, Dope and Disturbed.
  27. Online play is definitely the main selling point of MTX: Mototrax and what sets it apart from other motocross titles. Other than that, though, the game does not deliver anything terribly new or innovative.
  28. MTX is simply the fastest motocross game I've ever played. [Apr 2004, p.89]
  29. 75
This game definitely is ambitious. Unfortunately, I would've traded things like the track creator and rider customization for tighter gameplay. Mototrax gets an A for effort, but about a B- in execution.
  30. It's a solid game with a lot going for it and a safe purchase if you go in not expecting anything revolutionary.
  31. MTX Mototrax may be the only game in town if you're dead-set on online play, but THQ's recent release, "MX Unleashed," is still a better game across the board.
  32. Featuring plenty of unlockables, good visuals, an adrenaline-charged soundtrack, and solid connectivity, I would recommend MTX Mototrax for anyone interested in the world of motocross, or just looking to pick up quality extreme sports title.
  33. 70
MTX may be fun to drive, but it's a little short on car-wreck appeal, which probably has to be considered an important factor in an extreme sports game.
  34. A good motocross game that qualifies as a rental for everyone, and a purchase for those that truly love the sport of dirt bike racing.
  35. Controls are easy to pick up, and completing the modes and learning new tricks is fun. But after awhile, it feels quite repetitive and when you beat it, there's not much reason to play more.
  36. Xbox Nation Magazine
    70
Mototrax offers an almost visceral appeal - you can really feel the bike moving under you. [June 2004, p.86]
  37. MTX:Mototrax is everything you have come to expect from a motocross game, but not that much more. Play is fun and fast but does not deserve winning honors.
  38. Electronic Gaming Monthly
    60
The game initially strikes a good balance between challenging and rewarding but becomes extremely difficult in later stages (despite bike upgrades), ramping up the frustration factor considerably - and unnecessarily. [May 2004, p.88]
  39. 60
A solid entry in the world of motocross games, but it's not much of a step up from "Excitebike 64," a game the same developer finished four years ago.
