  • Summary: Hundreds of new skating animations have been captured for NHL 2K7. Not only will skating look much more natural, players will also experience the true momentum of skating whenever players dig into the ice to accelerate or carve the ice to make sudden stops. In addition to the numerous new skating animations, several new checking, passing, and shooting animations have been added, making all the action in NHL 2K7 flow with amazing detail. New gameplay enhancements have been added to Pro Control, giving users offensive and defensive tools to utilize on the ice. While on offense, players now have the ability to execute drop passes, allowing users to setup new screen plays and create new scoring opportunities to catch the goalie off-guard. Pressure Control brings a tactical element to defensive hockey as players now can instruct teammates to defend opposing players while on the ice. Varying degrees of pressure can be selected - whether it's telling your teammate to shadow a selected opponent or deliver a big check - allowing players new defensive options on the fly. Pro Control in NHL 2K7 delivers the offensive and defensive options hockey fans have been asking for, truly delivering the next generation of hockey. Expand

Online, 2K Sports continues to lead the pack with online leagues and seasons. NHL 2K7 on higher difficulties is a solid simulation and, with all the modes, teams and options, is the most complete hockey title on the Xbox.
  2. Both games are great, but NHL 2K7 wins our vote because of adaptable gameplay that can be set up how you want it. [Nov 2006, p.70]
  3. The lack of changes will disappoint some, but for 20 bucks the minor tweaks and new roster nicely enhance what was already a great game.

I must say that while I was initially disappointed with this title, the more time I spent with it, the more I grew to love it. NHL2K7 is the best iteration of the series. They have touched up the AI, skating feels much more realistic now than it used to (no more table-hockey effect!) and for the first time since 2K5, you can really feel the momentum switch after a big goal or fight. The only thing that bummed me out is they took out some of the control features, like one-touch passing, but overall I am very happy with the game. The best part is that the game is fun again, which is a solid departure from the predictability of 2K6. Bravo! Expand

I like the new dynamic camera a lot. But the game disappoints on many other levels. The graphics and entire asthetic is ugly and dingy as with previous years. I don't notice any animation improvement as advertised in the new features. The animation was, and still is a bit of a weak point. Bob Cole and Harry Neal are the best commentators that exist, but they make several mistakes a game. Much of their mistakes are obvious glitches, which also show through in most other areas. As with previous years, glitches are common. Okay, it really should be all about the gameplay, but it's not all that exceptional either. The goal variety and goalie ai are really important in a hockey game, but aren't great here. It just doesn't look like a real game yet to passerbyers, the way other sports. Madden 2001 and NFL 2k both look more like a real game of football, than NHL 2k7 looks like a real hockey game. That just shouldn't be. This series needs to evolve bad. Expand
