  1. A much more enjoyable, involving game than its predecessor. [Feb 2003, p.80]
  2. 70
With more bump mapping and shading combined with beautiful particle and lighting effects, Nightcaster II's visuals are a few steps ahead of the prequel's, but overall the graphics look plain and at times muddy.
  3. A tough-as-nails, manic, top-down shooter (something I always have room for) with a deep magic system and a healthy (yet somewhat misplaced) techno soundtrack in tow. [Mar 2003, p.65]
  4. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this one or there's a good chance that your Xbox will come to life, beat you to a bloody pulp, and steal all of your valued possessions. [Feb 2003, p.105]
  5. Marginally better than the last. [Feb/Mar 2003, p.84]
  6. An unfinished game. If level designs were better, enemy AI was better, melee attacks actually did something, and a whole host of other things were worked out, the game wouldn't be so bad.
  7. There is nothing in this game that hasn't been done better in every single way than "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance."
  8. There's little you can do despite the 34 spells at your disposal. Getting out alive is left to chance and a lot of button mashing.

The game's unbalanced gameplay, poor level and game design, and dreadful music all make for an experience that is little better than going to a urologist the day after Christmas.
  10. The control system is still good but the rest of the game is still shockingly weak.
  11. 20
Evil incantations have adversely affected the game's characters and the game engine itself. Simply put, Nightcaster II has problems.
  12. About as incoherent and obnoxious as the ramblings of a bored frat boy who's holding an empty six-pack and a boom box, except with Nightcaster II, you have to pay $40 to be subjected to it.

This game is the most beautiful game ever made.

Much more action-packed than the first, however, more undeveloped. This game could have been the best Gauntlet-like game available had more time been put into it. I think overall, it took 4-5 hours to beat. Full Review »

Let it be known that I hated the first Nightcaster. But even though this sequel is MUCH better than the first one, it still has its flaws.
