Racing doesn't get much grittier than this. Here's mud in your eye!

"NASCAR Heat" and "Project Gotham Racing" had their graphical moments, but they can't hold a candle to RalliSport Challenge. This game is incredible in how gorgeous it is.
  3. A fantastic and gorgeous “arcade style” rally racing game...that has finally bypassed GT3 in terms of visuals...The best racing game of the year, arcade or otherwise.
  4. 92
Fusing fast-paced arcade racing with tons of authentic cars, realistic rally tracks, and gorgeous graphics, DICE has created a riveting game that no racing fan should be without.
  5. A fast, fun, pedal to the metal racing game that you would have to be in a coma not to have a blast playing.
  6. Its thrilling mix of visuals, dynamics handling and speed, together with a superb four-player split-screen, puts its rivals in the shade. Nothing else comes close, for now.
  7. Intense racing, easy controls...The best racer out on the Xbox.
  8. 92
A blast no matter how long you want to play it. Whether it is for 15-minutes or five hours, it will satisfy your racing bug. The controller works seemingly flawless with the game, and shouldn't be difficult for even beginners to pick up and play.
  9. This is easily the best driving game currently available for the Xbox, and no Xbox owner should be caught without it.
  10. The Gran Turismo of off-road racing...This is as close to perfection as the rally racing genre is every going to get.
  11. The graphics, gameplay and sound all contribute to one of the most beautiful and satisfying gaming experiences ever.

Not only is RalliSport Challenge one of the best rally racing games ever, it may be the most fun ever to rumble on a console.
  13. In addition to lots of racing choices, "RalliSport" has impressive force feedback in the game controller.
  14. Overall this is a retina burning experience, the Xbox tricks of texturing and lighting are used to great effect here, the detail on the textures being of particular note.
  15. RalliSport could very well be the racing game of the year. The only reason it doesn't go into our Hall of Fame is for the lack of customization and a little more "sim" options.
  16. Smooth mechanics of this game...manifest as gorgeous graphics, intuitive and responsive controls, and a physics system that does an exceptional job of simulating all wheel drive on all sorts of hellish terrain.
  17. More un-lockable features, multi-player modes, and car upgrade options would be very welcome here.
  18. Driving these cars is both a challenge and a joy. The physics handle realistically enough that you won’t be cursing every time you spin out.
  19. Some of the prettiest graphics to ever grace a racing game – console or PC-based. [Apr 2002, p.82]
  20. Hardcore driving fans may argue that this doesn't offer enough options in the way of car upgrades, but you won't find another rally game that's this much fun to play.
  21. Quite simply, RalliSport Challenge is proof Microsoft is serious when it says it wants to play with the big boys.
  22. An unapologetic, balls-out sim that requires a serious time investment from the player. [May 2002, p.114]
  23. The vehicles aren't the only things basking in graphical splendor. The entire game amazes...[but] I did notice that the load times are a little hefty for a system with a hard drive.
  24. It looks fantastic, it controls well, and it’s the kind of meaty gaming experience that could keep you busy for weeks. Be warned, though, the difficulty here is off the scale.
  25. Overly long and unimaginative tracks punctuate the wide selection of courses and it's impossible to know them all well enough to become fond of their individual traits. [Summer 2002, p.88]
  26. As your handling becomes more intuitive, the detail melts into the background and, with just a tiny eye-blur, you get that huge photorealism kick. [XGamer Magazine]
  27. Opponents' AI could be improved also, as it sometimes causes the cars to take some strange routes – especially as they crash into each other at the start of races. [Apr 2002, p.81]
  28. Rallisport does more than just win over casual racing fans - it make an otherwise niche genre something fun and exciting - hey, Sony did it with golf and Hot Shots - Microsoft is just using a different set of drivers.

The only downer to this solid racer is the cumbersome controls.
  30. The sound is great, and with a Dolby Digital system you'll hear fire shoot from the exhaust across the rear channels every time you lift off the gas. Shame Microsoft went for the cheap option with the music, though.
  31. The game doesn't overwhelm players with options, and the modes of play are relatively straightforward. What RalliSport does best is provide gamers with a thrill of speed and a style of control that demands their full attention.
