  • Summary: On the war-torn, poisoned atmosphere of Nu Earth, Rogue Trooper is a genetic infantryman, one of an elite squad of biologically-engineered clone troops, created to overcome the planet's hostile atmosphere, unhindered in their fight against the enemy, the Nort Republic. After witnessing the betrayal and annihilation of his squad at the Quartz Zone Massacre, Rogue has gone AWOL, determined to hunt down the traitor who sent his brothers-in-arms to their deaths. Armed with the latest experimental weapons, Rogue's arsenal offers him a critical advantage over his opponents; encoded bio-chips containing the digitised personalities of his fallen comrades are stored in his gun, helmet and backpack, each offering their unique expertise and assistance, allowing Rogue to strategically outwit a sophisticated enemy. The game is a mix of intense 3rd person action and next generation stealth elements, with complex line-of-sight AI, multiple game paths, full tactical use of your bio-chip operated equipment and both single- and multiplayer online gameplay. 1. There is just so much original thinking that went into this design, and it really forces you to strategize and play in whole new ways. Each encounter in the game is a new chance to plan some crafty tactics or just go in guns blazing. Rogue Trooper is a fantastic action experience and gets my highest recommendation for being added to your permanent game library.

It's amazing when you sit down with a game that you had the lowest of expectations for, only to find an incredibly well put together experience.
  3. Rogue Trooper, I thank you for the important lesson you've taught me about judging a game by its cover art: That's now onlt accurate 99% of the time. [June 2006, p.111]
  4. The co-op gameplay is a nice touch, but not enough to overcome the bland graphics and familiarity that permeates every second of gameplay. [June 2006, p.112]

Excellent game worthy of the licence.
  2. It's not a Gear's cover system, it's a Rogue Trooper cover system. It's not a Gears hand grenade arc aiming system it's a... They should nick the remote gun, and the holo-projector as well, and the stealth knife-kill, and the Aliens-esque one man robo-suits, and... What did they add? Oh yeah, a chainsaw on the gun. Well chainsaws, they're cool. I love Gears, I really do. Just don't tell me it's a Gears cover system. I hear that one more time and I will EXPLODE. Expand

Not just a great adaption of the comic, but in its own right a fantastic third-person shooter that allows the player to be inventive and tackle each situation as he pleases. It stays challenging the whole way through thanks to the terrifyingly smart enemies (if you've played last year's Sniper Elite by the same developers, you'll see the same level of high quality AI here) and killing them is always satisfying thanks to some meaty weaponry. No doubt one of the best shooters for the Xbox in recent years. Expand

Played PS2 version - nicely intuitive controls and some great fun to be had with "bio-chip" features. Can be a bit easy but never frustrating.
