  1. This title is a good pick for players ages 13 to 17 (especially those who liked the film), though older players might grow tired of the gags after a while.
  2. The game play appeals to the young and hopelessly naïve gamers who think they're reliving the movie experience. Good luck to them - to the rest of us, spend your X-bucks on something a little more sophisticated.

The sheer number and monotony of the challenges, however, gets boring at times. [Jan 2002, p.88]

If you can look past the smelly parts, Shrek is worth farting around with. [Feb 2002, p.59]

Visually, Shrek is a great example of what the system can do...The structure of the game quickly becomes repetitive, and more importantly, the individual goals of the game just aren't fun.
  6. It's really a shame, because Shrek is exactly the sort of movie that could be made into some highly entertaining platform games.
  7. Amazing visuals have come at a price--as a gameplay experience, Shrek is pretty unsubstantial. Only the youngest of players will find its gameplay compelling in the least, and even they, by now, have become accustomed to something more.

    Shrek's gameplay is sub-par. [Jan 2002]
  9. The excitement is just too short-lived and even the biggest fans of the movie are more than likely to be disappointed.
  10. The problem here is that the levels are either two small, or laid out in ways that are counter-intuitive. There's also the problem of challenge.

Shrek himself is a visual marvel. The thing is, once you’ve taken your jaw off the floor, you’re stuck with a dull and frustrating game that’s too difficult for younger players and not engaging enough to hook older gamers.

Let's start with the fact that Donkey, Fiona, and Lord Farquaad aren't present. Seriously? They were very important characters to the anime. The plot is very faithful either. This game is almost as much of a disgrace as SpongeBob retconning the universe right as Gary got character development. The controls are **** and the only saving grace this game has is the art style, which is very reminiscent of the anime.

Overall, **** this game. Kill it with fire, my fellow weeaboos
