100If you have an X-Box, this is the game to beat for playability and entertainment.
-
90This may just be the best comic book–based game ever.
-
88The animation is smooth and wonderful to watch.
-
87Very fun, though still plays a lot like the first Spiderman game I played on PlayStation (which isn't a bad thing, but hoped for a somewhat different experience).
-
The game kicks butt too except for one big problem: the camera.
-
86The camera angles do get frustrating after awhile, but the story, graphics, and extra features make it worthwhile.
-
Kudos to developer Treyarch for creating a seamless interface by which players can control a gravity-defying character without any noticeable restrictions or limitations.
-
Personally, I found myself enthralled with the video game, so much so that I pulled a couple of all-nighters going through the game over and over again and noticing new details each and every time.
-
Fun for the short amount of time it lasts.
-
84I love the fact that every Spider-Man ability I could ever want has been included in this game.
-
The action is blistering, yet the camera moves like a slug and requires constant maintenance from the player. Don't let this discourage you, though. [June 2002, p.83]
-
83Questionable camera controls and sometimes frustrating gameplay are all but forgiven in the context of the rest of the game's charms.
-
82If I have to pick a gripe it would be that the game wasn't designed primarily for the Xbox then stripped down for other consoles, but the addition of 2 levels and an extra villain make it a worthwhile effort.
-
The animation used in this game is some of the best we have seen in a video game in a long time. Spiderman flows beautifully through web-slings, crawling up walls, or performing his vicious kicks and punches.
-
It can be hugely exciting and fun when you are outside flying through the city. However the inside levels feel confined and just lack the excitement of the excellently implemented exterior sections.
-
80Good graphics, fun gameplay and acceptable control make the Xbox version of Spider-Man an excellent game for Spider-Man and 3D platform fans alike.
-
80Really good...The game-play is where Spiderman really shines.
-
The game is missing a dose of innovation that could've helped it become stunning. [July 2002, p.77]
-
75Despite the camera problems and some of the other issues, most players will probably enjoy playing what ultimately turns out to be a graphically superior version of the PlayStation and Dreamcast Spider-Man games, which faithfully captured the superhero's moves and antics to begin with.
-
This is easily the most disappointing Spider-Man game ever.
-
The best looking has to be the Xbox version. Compared to the others, Spidey's world is very sharp, clean and crystal clear. Colors are very vibrant and while the textures aren't very detailed, they work just fine.
-
The camera itself functions as a de facto enemy -- and possibly the deadliest one of them all. [Summer 2002, p.82]
-
While the crisp graphics and bonus levels put the Xbox Spider-Man game slightly ahead of the PS2 and GameCube versions, indoor sequences are still problematic with an uncooperative camera that rarely stays behind the web-slinger as he flits across the room.
-
67The Xbox release is the best of the three console editions by far. [June 2002, p.59]
-
There are some things to unlock, but the game itself is fairly short.
-
I found the combat lame, the camera annoying, and some levels frustrating. [July 2002, p.124]
-
60At the end of the day fans of Spiderman fans will find plenty to enjoy as they relive all their childhood fantasies.
-
We can't help feeling that this needed an extra couple of months' work to iron out the rough edges and implement some real strategy to the gameplay.
-
40TreyArch has excelled itself, not just failing to get [the camera] right, but setting mind-blowing new standards in incomprehensibility. [Edge]
