  1. Four player co-op, a few pretty interesting modes, and a solid combat system equals a fair amount of fun.
  2. It's sad when a game made ten years ago can out-perform one made today.

A functional if predictable four-player beat 'em up. Does everything you'd expect from a Turtles game, but nothing more. [April 2006, p.88]

It's a vapid action game without the refined control and visual flair required of a game with no soul.
  5. A step up from the previous entry to the series, offering up all four turtles onscreen at once and some new elements. Still, the gameplay is light-years behind where it should be.
  6. It does offer the upgrade system which redeems it, but overall the game is kind of boring.
  7. To its credit, Mutant Nightmare is a touch better than the last game, "Battle Nexus," in that it doesn't force-feed you a gaggle of terribly clunky platforming sequences to try to keep things interesting. But beyond that meager distinction, this still isn't a very enjoyable game.

As nightmares go, this one ranks right up there with the one about entering the schoolyard pantsless, and perhaps even on fire. The turtles deserve better, and its unfortunate this game extends their bad luck streak.
