  1. A tremendous game. [Feb 2003, p.105]
  2. A very good game in its own right [and] the best movie-to-game conversion in recent memory.
  3. It's hard to believe, but EA has finally done a great job in taking a movie license, converting it to a fun game, and then delivering it to all the major consoles roughly in time for the movie's actual release.
  4. While the action is good, it's also incredibly short. There are only a dozen missions, plus an unlockable thirteenth, but you're looking at six to eight hours tops on this one. [Feb 2003, p.66]
  5. There are big monsters, countless enemies to place the hurt on and an epic adventure to go along with it.

I'm somewhat disappointed in this decent beat-em-up, which comes with far too many limitations and nagging annoyances to be worthy of quite such high praise that's been thrown around.
  7. Essentially Gauntlet without the magic. You can't even play as Gandalf here.

I give it a 10, because of the easy controls the awesome video and sound and the gameplay is excellent tho I beat it in a few hours I still play it more than any other xbox game because its so damned addicting, cant wait until they release return of the king if the first 2 video games were this good. GREAT GAME. Now I can actually look at this game with pride. Unlike my other rating for Medal of Honor: Frontline, which I gave a big fat 0, this is a game that you can play for hours, even the same level over and over again. There is great movie to game changes, great music, and great gameplay. I admit the game is a little short, but it is worth buying and playing. But if you have a bad day at school, just throw down your books, turn on your Xbox console, and place Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers game in. Soon you'll be impaling your weapon into another orc's flesh, with the choice of being either Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn, or my favorite, which is the special character, Ilsidor. Finally a game worth playing. Collapse

Not being able to control where you look is a HUGE drawback, and the AI characters will get in your way at times, and some levels seem near impossible....but it's still fun... Expand

Given the bad reputation that movie games get, this game is actually pretty good. The most obvious drawback is fixed camera angles hindering sight. The combat system isn't shoddy, the boss battles aren't monotonous, and the graphics hold up decently well. Expand

Good battles. Too short. Rent it, don't buy it.

The game is alright. It isn't anything too spectacular. The graphics are fine. The music however was stellar. But the gameplay is where this title falls short. The combo and power attacks needed to be tweaked a bit. Because they have no real power when your player is surrounded by 10 goblins. Sure you can turtle up in these situations and block it out but there are some levels which you are timed so that strategy doesn't work. Also charged power attacks for the most part are useless since they can only be used when stationary and during this time you can't block either. The gameplay could have been executed a little better and with it alot of frusteration could have been saved. All in all, don't buy this game just burn it off your hard drive. Expand
