90The Warriors is near perfection. It offers a compelling single player action adventure game that can become a two-player affair at the push of a button.
-
The enemy is full of piss and vinegar and ready to smash you and your mates into the concrete given half a chance. They will swarm, flank and surround you if you're not careful.
-
Not only is this game true to the classic cult film from 1979, it conjures the same sinister themes and underlying social tension in a way that's pretty darned smart for something called a game.
-
90As fun as these excursions into petty theft and extortion might be, the essence of The Warriors is combat, and it's the first game in ages to truly nail it.
-
90Absolutely staggering. Its gameplay is precise and wide-spread, its presentation is truthful to the film, and its extras are plentiful. Indeed, I can dig it!
-
90While it would have been very easy for the developers at Rockstar Toronto to simply recreate the events seen in the movie, they've managed to craft a tale that actually enhances the film.
-
92The fighting system is remarkable with a number of combo potentials and variety of moves that keep the combat from getting old.
-
89A true fighting game that is destined to become an instant classic. Much like the film it's packed with a great story, moody atmosphere and lots of action.
-
100It takes strong foundations from both the genre and the source material, then layers things on top that make the entire game a solid, intense experience throughout. It's amazingly fun, amazingly wrong in that Rockstar kinda way, and amazingly right in every fundamental design choice. In short, Rockstar has made a modern classic with The Warriors.
-
The Warriors may be the best example of a movie being transferred to a game, ever. You can tell by the entire production including the audio, graphics, controls and gameplay that Rockstar cared about the film's origins.
-
88A surprising game, not just because it's one of the best games based on a movie, but because it manages to raise the bar on a genre that has been stuck in mud for over a decade.
-
A great story that fleshes out some beloved characters, a simplistic but amazing fighting engine and perfectly captured atmosphere makes The Warriors a great addition to any action fan's Xbox library.
-
90The end result is the best movie to computer game transition in a long time, if not the most enjoyable ever created. Grab the popcorn, watch the film and then play the game, and if you do, we really can't envisage a better gaming weekend for your troubles.
-
87In this game, causing destruction and raising hell is very much the order of the day, but it's done in a way that never feels as repetitive or as familiar as you might think.
-
89Rockstar Toronto demonstrated tons of attention to detail, bridging the game and film together. The action is fierce.
-
Warriors succeeds because it wholly engrosses players. [Nov p.82]
-
95The game's free-flowing scuffles are akin to your toilet experience after a night of over-beering: In other words, both are shockingly big, messy, chaotic, scary, surprising, and usually a little bloody.
-
The amount of missions, hidden missions, and secret unlockables (including a kick-butt homage to "Double Dragon" that's unearthed once you finish the game!) makes this more than worth the price of admission.
-
90When you hit a chain link fence it sounds so authentic, the same can be said when crashing crates and breaking bottles. It's little things like this that can make or break a title, and audio that is this well done will really grab your attention.
-
90It's amazingly fun, amazingly wrong in that Rockstar kinda way we all know (and love), and amazingly right in every fundamental design choice. In short, Rockstar has pulled off a great feat by recreating a landmark movie into a modern classic video-game.
