  1. It's hard to argue with graphics and sounds of this quality.
  2. 89
The game really has it all. From perfect physics to great graphics, TP2002 is a solid, well-developed title.
  3. A very fun baseball game to play. The game's great graphics, involving gameplay, and great commentary all blend together to deliver an exciting and authentic game of baseball.
  4. Triple Play 2002 will appeal to a large range of fans, but will especially appeal to those who are scared off by more complex or technical baseball games, like "All Star 2003."
  5. When it comes to the big picture of realistically capturing the true nature of the game, this falls short of the wall.
  6. 70
Tries new things with the game’s presentation, but what it really needs is to revamp the fundamentals like the pitching interface and two-player matches.
  7. Fielding is awful, but not nearly as bad as it has been in previous Triple Play games.
  8. Not fun. If you are looking for a baseball game that involves any thought process more complicated than, “throw the ball, hit the ball”, I suggest you look elsewhere.
  9. As ugly as a Tim Wakefield knuckleball. [Spring 2002, p.91]
  10. Not as fun as the extra-exaggerated Triple Play games of the past and nowhere near as good as better baseball simulations by 3DO and Acclaim.
  11. The defensive players move at the speed of John Kruk dragging Tony Gwynn behind him. [May 2002, p.76]
  12. An unprecedented, uninspiring, un-everything negative pile of digital garbage
  13. This game can't even show a bunt without a glitchy flaw or two. [May 2002, p.114]
  14. Terrible when it comes to gameplay. [Apr 2002, p.83]
  15. Lacking just about everything that makes their top-shelf titles great, namely the depth of modes and the attempt at re-creating the nuances of the sport, Triple Play 2002 is an action-heavy game that needs a complete overhaul in player models, fielding, pitching, and options.

Beyond the pretty stadiums, there's nothing that rises above mediocrity in Triple Play. Yes, it really is that bad...You're better off not owning a baseball game this year, than owning this one.
  17. 30
At all costs, do not expose yourself to the undying horror known as Triple Play 2002.
