  2. Negative: 5 out of 8
  1. While there are many teams to choose from, the gameplay is uninspired, mostly due to the poor AI, which it won't matter what team you choose. You can see all that Ultimate Beach Soccer has to offer in less than ten minutes. OK, under five minutes.
  2. I was left slightly underwhelmed and rather bored with the entire experience. Sure, Ultimate Beach Soccer is new and different and that might be enough to get a few curious gamers to check it out, but I doubt it will keep their interest for more than a day or two.
  3. With a more refined graphical engine, better play control, and more options, this game could have been very enjoyable. Sadly, all of the previous elements were executed at a poor level and the game seems very rushed.
  4. While I appreciate the designers’ efforts to "dumb-down" the controls, unfortunately it also makes for extremely repetitive and boring game play - translation...NOT FUN!
  5. The result is a brutally slow pace and a game that doesn't pack much of anything for anybody. The AI is horrendous, the control is abysmal, and the announcing... [Jan 2004, p.73]
  6. Gameplay is where UBS really screws up.
  7. One begins to wonder where the company found the nerve to release a game that plays as if it were coded by the ultimate beach personality, Jeff Spiccoli. [Mar 2004, p.80]
  8. Ultimately awful. If this is Ultimate Beach Soccer, then I don't even want to see Mediocre Beach Soccer or Awful Beach Soccer.
