90I really enjoyed Capcom's Without Warning immensely.
-
A smooth shooter with no surprises. Best in small doses. Not bad, but not brilliant either. [Oct 2005]
-
It's a refreshing premise, but it isn't executed as well as it should be. Approach with caution.
-
70Similarly to a game like "The Getaway," Without Warning is one of those games people will either take in and enjoy for what it is or hate with abandon due to its frustrating camera problems and derivative plot that never fully delivers on its unique premise.
-
With no engaging story or personalities, this title doesn't even come close to hooking you with its shifting, convergent story lines - unlike Without Warning's supposed inspiration, the show "24." [Nov 2005, p.148]
-
A decent albeit an average 3rd person action game, which although showing some flaws, most noticeably the AI at times; remains engaging and fun.
-
64Perhaps the biggest downfalls are the targeting and shooting systems (the heart of any third-person game involving guns) which are adventures in their own right, and make for some trying times throughout each mission.
-
It focuses too much on the Timeline gimmick but doesn't quite make it feel like a natural part of the gameplay.
-
50It doesn't help matters that the game plays like a mindless shooter-by-numbers.
-
46This hackneyed terrorist shooter is without story, without characters, without originality, and most importantly, without fun.
-
45Completely flawed in almost every aspect.
-
45Each of the game's unique attempts at originality fall flat, and the most important aspect of a shooter - the combat - is bland and boring.
-
Poor controls, shonky camera, lacklustre presentation and a whole bunch of glaring bugs and glitches spoil what is at times a pretty good fun action shooter.
-
40A pretty-looking but utterly mediocre gaming experience that's little more than space invaders with terrorists. The concept is sound, the storyline is okay, but the implementation just doesn't work.
-
40Offering a plot from different perspective seems like a grand idea, but the lazy execution, boring characters and slow pacing makes this one an absolute mess.
-
40Its shooting is tame, forward progress is tedious, most enemies are foolish, the environment is dreary, and the unprofessionally delivered storyline is predictable and quite unentertaining.
-
Quotation forthcoming. [Nov 2005]
-
40Doomed to be a bargain bin special, Without Warning is strictly middle-of-the-road from top to bottom. There are a few shining moments in the game, but heed our warning and leave this one to rest in peace.
-
The story and voice acting offered me several unintentional laughs, but inexcusably stupid elements, such as unskippable cut-scenes and the inability to pick up fallen enemies' weapons, pair with rotten gameplay to make this one of the worst games I've played all year.
-
33A simple, one dimensional story, horrible voice acting and frustratingly boring and inconsistent gameplay make Without Warning an easy game to skip this holiday. Fair graphics keep it from being a complete waste of time.
-
30Plays more like a kind of arcade light-gun shooter with legs, and feels like it needed a better script and about six more months of development time.
-
By any standards that have existed during the last ten, Without Warning is a work of stultifying incompetence that seems to hate its own players. [Dec 2005, p.108]
-
30This could have been so much more, but the shoddy engine and woeful AI let down some fairly solid and slightly confusing concepts. [Nov 2005, p.125]
-
25Most of the time it's just a frustrating mess that you wish you weren't experiencing.
-
A virtual mess of epic proportions. [Dec 2005, p.115]
