  1. If you have great group of online buddies or real-world friends who are on Xbox Live, this game is the next best thing to the Friday night poker-fest in your pal's basement.
  2. "WSOP" has a better Career mode than this game, and faster gameplay. But WPT has a better online mode, and slightly better computer AI.
  3. Fortunately you can also go online and play against humans in what is definitely one of the Xbox's better poker offerings. [Holiday 2005, p.73]
  4. A great entry point for fans of the sport and those looking to learn the ropes. At a bargain price of $20, it's worth checking out.
  5. Currently the best poker game currently in the market, but I would still hold out for something better (Hopefully "Stacked").
  6. The addition of the WPT license has given the game a level of focus and direction that the developer's previous effort lacked.
  7. Despite the amount of complaints on the table, I still think World Poker Tour should be given a chance if you plan to take it online, because as far as I know, this is the only poker videogame that offers such an extensive online mode.

World Poker Tour isn't a huge step above "World Championship Poker," but the career mode is at least more engaging and the AI is less aggravating. The multiplayer game also doesn't appear to be as broken, though it's still clunky.
  9. The online options are a worthy addition, but the game's sound and graphical abilities are severely lacking even if some of the presentation is borrowed from the television series.

Nothing spectacular here, but it'll do.
  11. This budget game serves up some basic and ordinary poker action, with decent Xbox Live support.
  12. But if you don't have Live, World Poker Tour is little more than a glorified game of cards against the computer. It does put a lot of effort into catering for the single player, with a full career mode and several real-life players to challenge, but it won't take long for any half-decent player to figure out how to exploit the somewhat basic AI. [Official UK Xbox Magazine]
  13. Something could've been done to spice up the presentation, and the AI could've used tightening to the point that it could barely breathe.
  14. Large improvements need to be made to the AI to make the game challenging and enjoyable, and more time needs to be spent on improving the character models and announcing work.
  15. Comparing World Poker Tour to "World Series of Poker" is like asking if you'd rather be short & fat or ugly & stupid. The generally competent A.I. and career mode make this one the better choice, but your best bet is to leave both flops on the table and find a new game altogether.

If this whole review sounds a little down on what appears to be a competent video poker game, it's because in this reviewer's opinion, World Poker Tour is missing the two key ingredients in any good poker game. Money and intimacy.

All in all, WPT is not a bad title, but $20 can get you into a couple of real tournaments online. Tournaments where you could actually make money.

I was expecting a lot better, but this is maybe the best poker game on xbox. It's strange how the graphics are so poor in all poker I was expecting a lot better, but this is maybe the best poker game on xbox. It's strange how the graphics are so poor in all poker games when they only have to make a bunch of people sitting around a table, relatively motionless. This game has some of the ugliest player models and animations i've seen in any xbox game. If it didn't have the theme of one of my favorite shows, it would be a throw away game. Full Review »
