Another masterpiece from the Yorkshire Tea drinking developers, another multiplayer hit from those flat-cap wearing geniuses.
  2. If there's any huge issue with Worms 4: Mayhem, it's that there's no massive leap into uncharted ground here.
  3. This is no doubt the funniest strategy game I have ever played. Whether it's the weapons, the worms' language, their actions and emotions when they are about to be hit or their catch phrases, everything is UNIQUE and SPOT ON.
  4. At its core, Mayhem is a leaner, less confusing entry to the Worms universe than Forts Under Siege, returning the series to a time when worm-killing was simple and death came in the form of an exploding sheep.
  5. In the audio-visual department, the game shows how little it has matured since Worms 3D yet is still bearable, and the cartoony feel draws comparisons to Saturday morning cartoons.
  6. Worms 4: Mayhem has drawn me back in, revitalizing the gameplay a bit and throwing in a number of modes and customization options that'll have you blasting worms through the night. It's not an essential, but fans will want to worm their way into it.

The series still doesn't quite work in 3D; you'd need a lot of patience and considerable tolerance to truly enjoy this game. [Aug 2005, p.112]
  8. Even though it's being offered at a budget price, there just isn't any reason to play Worms 4: Mayhem if you've played either of the last two games in the series.

Few things in this world will compare to the sort of manic glee that arises from sighting an enemy worm, targeting it through a gun's scope, and then pausing to watch the intended victim cower in abject terror.
  10. Worms 4 Mayhem won't rock your world with its refinement and it won't keep you on the edge of your seat with excitement, but it's certainly an entertaining and interesting diversion, if nothing else.
  11. The clever things these worms can do is impressive - parachuting, calling in airstrikes, blowing up explosive objects for an even bigger bang is all overshadowed by a really ugly aiming system. It's a crying shame.
  12. Adding platforming elements is good idea but the poor controls made it a nightmare.
  13. Worms 4 Mayhem proves Team 17 are starting to go back to their gameplay roots, and we for one are glad that they are. The single player mode is actually very playable for a change and serves as a great training ground for the inevitable multiplayer bouts that follow.

To best experience this game it's definitely worthwhile to gather together a few friends or take your game on to Xbox Live.
  15. I found that some of the controls were also rather horrid especially the first person aiming with some weapons.

Worms 4 Mayhem is the game that "Worms 3D" should have been. It is a much more polished product and even addresses some of the issues that have plagued Worms since its very first incarnation.
  17. Official Xbox Magazine
Addictive, but the gameplay and tired humor makes this series a knuckle dragging Cro-Magnon compared to the telekinetic flying super-ape it should've been. [Dec 2005, p.112]
  18. Pelaaja (Finland)
As the rest of the games in the series, Worms 4 is a blast when played with other people. Single player experience is mostly training for multiplayer, but still quite entertaining. The games biggest flaw is the usual sequel curse: there's really not enough new content that you'd have to get this game, if you own the previous one in the series. [June 2005, p.72]
  19. Pelit (Finland)
One of the best turn-based strategy games on the market. The single player mode is not so glorious, but with friends the game is a real blast. [Sept. 05]
  20. Awkward controls and unbalanced AI aside, this is still a Worms title at heart, so fans are sure to enjoy. One or two coats of polish are needed on the overall production, but there is plenty of fun to be had.
  21. The 3D view tends to slow the pace of the game as you struggle to find your targets, resulting in play that's not as frantic as it should be. But aside from this frustration, Worms still has a magic touch.
  22. While it isn't perfect, most of its flaws are forgivable because of the style and the price tag.
  23. Now that the game is established in a 3-D world, it has, for me at least, lost a little of its gripping intensity - an option to switch action between 2-D and 3-D would have been a nice touch.
  24. Improvements have been made throughout the game and it retains a strong sense of fun throughout, something that has only been accentuated by the inclusion of the various customisations.
  25. It's good fun, but the novelty of these funky worms waving goodbye in surreal style can wear off pretty quickly.
  26. A fun multiplayer game, but when you play as a single-player, you will just find a very slow moving progression of a watered down classic gameplay that was lost oh so long ago.
  27. Although the camera does make a few of the levels a bit more frustrating, fans will still want to add it to their collection and those into turn base games may find Worms a refreshing break form the other games out there right now.

This is a fantastic, and has cured all of the problems from Worms 3D. The enviroments are much more fun, and the humor is deliciously bitter sweet.
