  1. All this eye-candy comes at a price however, the game is plagued with clipping problems that are, at times, completely ridiculous.
  2. The problem is that there’s not enough depth or variety in the missions, the only reason to carry on through the game is to see the next set of stunning visuals, which you have to say are reason alone to at least rent this.

To be dead honest, playing Wreckless is much like watching a fireworks show. I sat in wonderment and let out an "ooh" and an "ahh," but quickly grew disenchanted. [Apr 2002, p.80]
  4. Visually, it is a stunning achievement that aside from a few frame rate issues presents some of the best graphics we've yet seen in the genre as a whole. Outside of the visuals, though, no one element of this title really stands out as an amazing aspect.

If you’ve played "Metropolis Street Racer" or "Project Gotham Racing," or even "Grand Theft Auto 3," you still haven’t seen anything yet with the detail of Wreckless.
  6. The stereotypical supermodel would be a good way to describe this title. The first few moments spent with Wreckless will really impress, but once you start investigating a little you'll notice a lack of substance.
  7. An excellent graphical showpiece...[but] a general lack of gameplay depth, drab physics, and annoying mission design all get in the way of what could have been a fantastic, action-packed driving game.
  8. I don't know where all the hype came from, but Wreckless doesn't live up to it.
  9. Despite its somewhat unfinished feel and limited gameplay, Wreckless still manages to kick some vehicular ass. The driving is excellent and the graphics engine is nothing short of an Xbox showpiece.
  10. It's great for a quick 10-minute thrill but not something I'd spend 45 quid on. [XGamer Magazine]

One area that the game is really lacking in, however, is its soundtrack.

If this game wasn't so incredible looking, I wouldn't give it the time of day. [Mar 2002, p.50]

So Wreckless, while being a graphical tour de force, and a superb showcase title for the polygon-pushing potential of the Xbox, is one of those games that's all talk and no trousers.
  14. Considering the short length and limited replay value, most will find themselves guilty of Wreckless abandonment.
  15. An amazing game, until the point where the initial impact of the pretty visuals wears off. What's left is a very average playing mission based driving title with not much in the line of long term replayability.
  16. To be honest, if the graphics were anything less, gamers would put this game down in a heartbeat.
