Summary

(Currently available in Japan only)While keeping the simple controls and action-oriented gameplay intact, this classic action platformer featuring the young game fan's hero of yore—Master Gamer Takahashi—has now been upgraded with 3D graphics. Higgins must wield a variety of weapons, master skateboarding skills, and fight his way through an action-packed island full of monsters and traps in order to save his girlfriend, Tina, who has been kidnapped by King Kiura. This revamped version also includes new features such as a "Harvesting Percentage" which calculates how much fruit the player was able to gather, and the "Challenge mode" where the goal is to get as far as possible in the game using only one life. Additionally, a Harvesting Percentage of 90% or more will net the player a "Hachi-suke"— Hudson's honey bee mascot— which will reap "Presents" such as vintage "Adventure Island" commercials, the button-mashing "Shooting Watch" game, and other extras. Alvaro O. gave it a9:
This game has exactly what made us love old school platforming: beautiful graphics, nice sound, cute characters, extremely well designed stages (in terms of the obstacles you will have to struggle with) and, to top ot all, it also enhances boss battles and effects. In terms of playability and replay value, this game is a MUST. It is the same type of playability that makes you return to Smash Brothers Melee again and again. I loved Adventure Island and Wonderboy; this game totally stays true to that legacy and takes it to the Gamecube era, both respecting the original structure and game mechanics and also adding updated graphics, enhanced sound and keeping the same level of playability as the classic NES game. By the way, you can also unlock the original NES soundtrack to accompany you throughout the game, plus some other extras, such as a Hudson featured clock. I wonder why Nintendo was so stupid as not to release this collection of budget Hudson classics in USA and Europe. This game, for example, excells other platform games such as Wario World. It is as enjoyable as the adventure stages in Smash Brothers, but with a more cohesive structure behind. Don't miss it!
